Although truly, my only problem with it (and Taxi, actually) is that some of the Table/Wizard goals for it involve a random result on the spinner.
Ok, my other problem with JT is that the ball-saving posts do a piss-poor job of actually saving the damned ball.
My problem with Jive time is that the slingshots make it really hard to catch and trap the ball, because there's no inlane and the slingshots are set right up against the flippers. What makes pinball a fun game of skill is the ability to trap the ball and make aimed shots. Without that ability, Jive Time is a lot more random.

Yeah... that too. I avoid that table so much (and I really haven't played this at all in a while) that I forget all of the little annoyances.
It's really like just comparing SNES-era games with Atari-era games: the older ones may have been "harder", but that's mostly because they were more primitive.
So we all hate Jive Time, that much is agreed. What is everyone's favorite table?
Taxi still does it for me. I love the easy multiball, the ramps, the difficult-but-not-impossible jackpot, and the sounds. There is almost always something to aim for with either flipper, so you're never at a loss for what to do. The skillshot is great fun too.
The other candidates are probably Funhouse and Whirlwind, but I don't think either of them have the sheer fun factor of Taxi.
I've seen some people argue for Black Knight, but I can't agree. I think it's a case of a table that was great (indeed, revolutionary) for its time, but doesn't stand up to later games.
Also, any Williams tables that could have (i.e., no licensing issues) and should have been in the game? I would have loved to see Banzai Run, just because I know it from real life--and it's a great table.

I agree and would probably suggest "High Speed". They had a restored version at TPF that had siren lights that were so bright that they literally blinded me when I activated them (and thus my ball drained).
But I'm looking at a picture of it on IPDB and I only see one red light on the top. I kinda remember blue in that period of bright light before blindness but I was having trouble SEEING so who knows. But they did act like it was restored so maybe they put a new siren on top.
And yes, I would have loved to see Cyclone in here. I wonder if it's because of Funhouse that it wasn't, since they both have something of a carnival theme going on.
Fired this up on Saturday after months of having other games to play (finally finished De Blob earlier that day). Decided to jump right into a Williams Challenge.
Out of practice: poor decision.
Needed my second try each to clear Gorgar, Taxi, Pin*Bot, and Funhouse, cleared Black Knight on my first go (that table's pretty much my bitch, apparently), then got crushed by Space Shuttle. Hitting a million on that table always seems to give me problems.
Bad news: Seeing as how we found out this game was coming out for 360/PS3 on Gamefly, we also used Gamefly for the release date, which was said to be June 12. Well, after checking Gamefly again, it's possible that the 360/PS3 release date has been changed to August 31.
Good news is that the game is finally getting a PAL release under the name "Williams Pinball Classics".
Of course, I played it. I played the hell out of it! I had no idea what to do in this game, but that never stops me. It's not often I cross paths with ANY pinball table.
I sunk my first two balls and only got something like 630,000. I didn't think I was getting any major bonuses, so I figured that had to be a relatively low score. So before I pulled the plunger for the 3rd time, I made sure I focused and got myself into a better pinball mood. It was a buck per game, and I didn't want it to end so quickly.
On only that third ball, I have no idea where I was hitting or how many multiballs I got, but I racked up the score to just over 15 million and somehow earned a free game.
Soon after, I think just before I started the free game, a couple of kids came over to watch and asked "How do you play that?", and I was happy enough to show them. They were barely tall enough to see inside. One of them leaned so close as I played that they were on my left hand and I was afraid of my knuckles smacking his teeth when I just wanted to use a flipper. Final score for the free game was something like 23 million. I must've had the goofiest grin when I finally walked away from it.
I wanted to get back to my Wii and play some more with PHoF, but I couldn't do it until tonight. I didn't really get anything going with the few rounds I played on it until I played Whirlwind. And WOW, did I EVER PLAY THE HELL OUT WHIRLWIND TONIGHT! I think I got an extra ball on Ball 2 and three extra balls on Ball 3, and I must've got every kind of multiball it has. I see them all drain, then I'm told to get to the cellar, and then it's multiball again! Craziness!
Final score on Whirlwind is my highest ever on it. 27,030,280
Last night, I completed all of the wizard goals on Black Knight, and I still don't know how to use the Magna-Save. :P
Seriously, how does that work? How do I work it?
I could see myself years from now, when used Wii and LCD screens are $30 total, trying to do something like in the video below. (If only PHoF could run in TATE mode like that thing can!)

Since I guess this is the Pinball thread, as a public service announcement, Zen Pinball comes out on the Playstation Network this Thursday for PS3. It's apparently from the same guys who made Pinball FX for Xbox Live Arcade, so take that as you will. I found Pinball FX to be okay, but not great. The physics felt a little off (the ball didn't feel solid enough), and the table designs left something to be desired. According to the official website, Zen has "operator's options" that allow you to adjust settings on the game's 4 tables, so maybe it might be a better try. Judging from the screenshots, the tables look a bit more interesting too. We'll see.
I wish more pinball games had guides like the Pinball Hall of Fame. It helped me figure out some goals for my playing, rather than me just shooting the ball around and watching things happen. But I suppose there is also a pleasure in finding things out. However, since I don't play pinball too much, I don't know game conventions and typical flow, so I'd never figure things out.
I know this thread is a bit old but I just wanted to say I finally got ahold of the PSP version of the game and am having fun with it. You can hit select to flip the video to play it vertically, kind of neat really although a bit awkward using X and triangle as the flippers.

GAH! I can't get the 25,000 points on the spinner goal on Black Knight, it's driving me nuts. I'll light up the spinner and either keep missing it or hit it too softly to get the points.
EDIT: I literally got the goal right after posting!

I still need to earn the Jackpot on Taxi, among a couple of other tasks; stupid random goals.

AGH, that Jackpot is driving me nuts. I get all the pickups and every time immediately after getting the final pickup I sink the ball before being able to complete the rest of the tasks needed. Either that or I keep fucking up the shot to get the santa pickup.

The problem is that even if you sink the shot perfectly, you still might not get the jackpot due to the random nature of the reward.
On Jive Time, getting the 10,000 bonus is just as annoying -- if not more. I actually got the 20,000 bonus (10K x2) before getting the non-doubled one, and it did not count for that goal. So naturally when I finally got the regular one -- the last goal I needed -- I was not surprised to see "get a 20,000 bonus" on the list of Wizard Goals.
My response was "fuck that noise" and I haven't played the table since. :P
I think the 10k bonus is the only one left I have on that Jive Time table, oh I might have a 100,000 one as well. That's on that table right? I had no idea what I was doing on that table but I randomly unlocked the rest by pure luck. It kind of makes me wish they had included the instructions for each table like they did in the Gottlieb collection as that came in handy since it's hard to see what the text on the table says when playing on the PSP.
EDIT: removed quote tree since it's kind of pointless since you're totp and I posted right after.

Huh. The Wii version has this. Guess something had to be sacrificed for the port...

my psp version has table instructions just like the gottlieb collection did. easy to read text and it reads them out to you.

Oh for fuck's sakes! It was further down in the options and since I don't recall it asking me on the first table if I wanted it to read the instructions to me like in the Gottlieb collection, I didn't bother looking. That would have made figuring out the tables so much easier!! Boy do I feel retarded right now.
You hate it because it kicks your ass or you hate it because you think it's un-fun? Because one of those opinions is valid and the other is a cause for euthanasia.

Give Funhouse more of a try. I'm not sure how anyone could hate that table.

I just don't find it fun
Do you have issues with rudy or something? How is hitting him in the face and him screaming "OUCH!" not fun?
Jeezus, I should've never read this thread. Because it led me to convince my Wii-owning friend to buy it for 15 bucks new. And now that I've actually played it, waiting for the 360 version to come out is gonna be agonizing.

But, you can go to your Wii-owning friend's house to play it in the meantime.
Funhouse is great except for when I'm constantly stuck doing a flipper to wind tunnel loop.
Ball pops out of the hole, I use the flipper, ball falls back into the hole. Ball pops out of the hole, I use the flipper, ball falls back into the hole. And on and on and on and on and on and GO THROUGH THE TINY LITTLE AISLE UP NEAR THE TOP, YOU STUPID BALL!

Fuck that is the only annoying thing about it, that stupid aisle is so hard to hit. "I've got it this time, FUCK! HOLE!"
Other then that there is so much shit to do on that table it's ridiculous! (in a good way.) I could never imagine being able to do the triple combo
EDIT: Holy shit I finally got the jackpot on Taxi!
So there's more info on the 360/PS3 version of the game, I wish I could find confirmation though. Apparently there is three extra tables but Amazon has listed: 3 New Tables - No Good Gophers, Medieval Madness & Tales of the Arabian Nights
but later on it lists: There are also three new tables, Monster Bash, Medieval Madness and Tales of the Arabian Nights.
Also, I wish I had $900 as someone locally has Gorgar for sale!
Sean Aaron of Nintendolife did confirm me rumour that I had already heard, but I couldn't verify from any reliable source. FarSight has indeed acquired rights for Bally Midway tables, and they are also exploring possibility of releasing invidual Gottlieb / Williams tables through WiiWare and other online services. Supposedly they have rights for more Gottlieb and Williams tables than the games feature. Great and interesting news.

900$ is a bit much for an older pin. Gorgar isn't anything like Cirqus voltaire or twilight zone or any of the top tier pins out there.
Good news to hear that the 360 version will have some new table in it. That's a definite selling point there.
I actually really like Gorgar and find it quite relaxing to play since there isn't as much to do and it doesn't feel as frantic as some of the other tables (although I can barely hear the heartbeat in the PSP version so it's probably a different experience on the real table).
$900 Canadian is about $810 US and I've seen that table go for about that much on most websites in the states. Newer pins like Hook, baywatch and Congo in my area are going for $1250-1500. There's an Addams Family at a local cafe I wish they would sell to me but it probably makes them way too much money.
It's good to hear that on the Wii/360/PS3 versions there might be DLC! More tables! More!
If anyone is looking for the PS2 version, I saw a triple pack at Sears for $15-20. Came with two other games that I don't remember or didn't recognize.
See that pisses me off. I seem to recall seeing this game in one of those packs and was like "huh, a pinball game? I should look it up to see if it's any good because usually these packs are shit." So instead of picking up the game then, I completely forgot about it (but luckily found it for PSP later on). I wonder how many potential sales were lost because of those packs? In fact, I think someone else was mentioning that in the thread.
Also, I just tried Gorgar with my headphones and I can hear the heartbeat much much better. Should have been playing like this from the start!
* Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
Crave Entertainment brings one of the major forces in arcade history to next-gen consoles for the first time with Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. Presenting classic pinball action along with challenging new tables such as "Medieval Madness" and "The Tales of the Arabian Nights," Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection also introduces new features such as online leader boards and additional table goalsto bring an awesome, retro pinball experience right into your home. Fans have been clamoring for this award winning franchise to make its debut on the latest next-gen consoles.
Some info from Gamespot
13 pinball tables, three of which are completely new to this version, including Medieval Madness and Arabian Nights.
The process of selecting a table is actually quite cool because they're scattered around a virtual arcade, including some in an upstairs area and a back room.
About Medieval Madness:
it's clear that the developers took much care in ensuring that the tables play as close to the original as possible. The physics seemed spot-on, with the ball having just the right amount of momentum and rebounding off of the various obstacles in a realistic manner. And every detail of the table seemed to be meticulously re-created, down to the smallest detail, such as forcing the castle's gate open with repeated hits.
the sturdy nature of the Xbox 360 controller almost makes it feel as if you've wrapped your hands around a physical table, with the triggers controlling the left and right bumpers respectively. The control stick is smartly used to pull the plunger back and snap it into the ball, just like the real thing. Finally, you'll feel every jostle with the controller vibrating just perfectly as the ball bounces around the table. We unfortunately weren't able to try the PlayStation3 version, so we're curious as to whether the controller's ergonomics impacts the game's immersive feel at all. Sadly, it seems that there won't be any Sixaxis support.
the game features leaderboards and a challenge mode called Wizard's Goals, which provides objectives tailored to each table. Completing them all unlocks the special hidden mode, which should add a good amount of replayability to the game.
Release date: Sept 1 2009
Pics from IGN would break the H-scroll, but the third table we couldn't figure out is No Good Gofers.
Does anyone else think it sucks that the impressions sounds like no one knew about the game from a year ago, and that it's only getting attention now that it's on the HD consoles? Or is it getting the extra attention because they might have been shown at E3 and I'm reading too much into it?

Whirlwind's second, and Taxi's a distant third.
Sadly, PIN*BOT is too prone to random ricochets sending the ball straight to the outlane without me so much as touching a flipper.

I believe you hit the A button to activate it, but I never usually bother.
That is one SWEET looking table.
EDIT: removed quote tree since it's kind of pointless since you're totp and I posted right after.
Huh. The Wii version has this. Guess something had to be sacrificed for the port...
my psp version has table instructions just like the gottlieb collection did. easy to read text and it reads them out to you.
also I hate Funhouse so very much.
I just don't find it fun
Give Funhouse more of a try. I'm not sure how anyone could hate that table.
Do you have issues with rudy or something? How is hitting him in the face and him screaming "OUCH!" not fun?

EDIT: Holy shit I finally got the jackpot on Taxi!
but later on it lists: There are also three new tables, Monster Bash, Medieval Madness and Tales of the Arabian Nights.
Also, I wish I had $900 as someone locally has Gorgar for sale!
900$ is a bit much for an older pin. Gorgar isn't anything like Cirqus voltaire or twilight zone or any of the top tier pins out there.
Good news to hear that the 360 version will have some new table in it. That's a definite selling point there.
More!
Also, I just tried Gorgar with my headphones and I can hear the heartbeat much much better. Should have been playing like this from the start!
Pics from IGN would break the H-scroll, but the third table we couldn't figure out is No Good Gofers.
