Quick eBay selling help...sigh..

Okay well long story short I need to sell an item before the demand dies down. I'll probably never use eBay for selling items again although I have purchased a few things in the past. Do I have to have a verified paypal account to receive payment for the item? I've been waiting for paypal to make the small deposit into my bank account but so far there's nothing and i'm seeing more and more of the item I intend to sell starting to flood the market.

Can auctions go up with your paypal unverified? If I do this what risk am I running? It seems possible because they let me set up all of the sale information but I don't want to go through with it if it will lead to some scammer picking out my sale and ripping me off. Thanks.

You can receive payments through PayPal without being verified no problem IIRC.

Okay so this won't be any sort of danger to me as a seller then?

Should be fine. However keep in mind that with the basic paypal account you can't accept credit card payments, only bank transfers. If you want to accept credit cards you need to upgrade the account (I forget what it's called... business maybe) in which case Paypal takes a percent cut of all transactions you make.

Also, if this is the only item you want to sell then I might suggest using a friend's ebay account. Sellers with a feedback rating of <20 tend to get lower totals on their auctions by a bit.

Ick that sounds like nasty business. I guess i'll have to wait for this verification to go through so I can take credit card payments. I doubt the payment would be through a bank transfer for an electronic item. (it's a special video game pre-order thingy)

Yeah my account is only like 10 something :|

Oh, I figured you had a big ol' goose egg. 10 should be OK. I mean if you've got a good buddy with like 150 (or 150,000) then ask him, but if not then I wouldn't worry.

Just to be certain of this. Most buyers won't purchase from me if they can't use paypal then right?

I don't understand why they would allow someone to purchase through paypal but not receive money on paypal.

You can receive money. You just can't receive it from a credit card on Paypal without upgrading the account to a version where Paypal takes a cut of all money you receive. You could still use it and state in your payment that you only accept payment through Paypal via debit/checking account. Obviously that's going to mean that some people that might otherwise bid won't, but it's an option. Or you upgrade your account -- which is free as far as I recall -- and accept the fact that Paypal will take a percentage of the payments you receive.

Yeah i've been waiting for my account to be upgraded but it hasn't happened yet.

There was a handful of the item I wanted to sell when I started this whole fiasco and now there are pages. Oh well.

    Age of Conan War Mammoth.

I bought the game and kind of dislike it. When I found out I could get my money back buy selling a pre order item (a code that unlocks something at level 40) I was elated. Not so much now that paypal still hasn't made the small deposit into my account.
