    Oh hey, it's you.

As much as I enjoy Myst, this is rather insubstantial. I'm not really tempted to click that at all.

With such an in depth and detailed explanation of what Mysterium is HOW COULD I RESIST?!

Apparently it is a Myst convention? Is Myst really something you can have a convention for? Buy some Myst apparel, bootleg Myst dvds, Myst candy, Myst porn? I kind of doubt it. In fact it sounds like a really boring convention.

Woah, I might even actually be in the area around then. And I like Myst. Two for two! (Although I admit to never having completed III, IV, or V. III was lent to me, IV I did a speed run through at a friends house. I think I was really close to a dreamworld or something like that.)

So, what does one even do at a Myst convention? Do they fill the hall with random odds and ends, then seal everyone in with some sort of obscure, impractical lock?

edit: eight cds? Bwa? The copy I borrowed had like one for each island.

What ever happened to the Myst MMO? I played a little bit when I still had game tap for Sam and Max season 1, but then I beat those games, and realized I couldn't play like half of the other ones. I remember that a lot of people were upset about one of the expansions not being a new age.

I'm not talking about that zork.

I still have this game. It's on three 5.25" floppies, and it came with a very kick ass manual, with this artwork on each disk:

Yeah, Riven only has five CDs. I think it's only surpassed by some applications and games with a lot of FMV before DVDs were big, like Wing Commander IV, which I think had six CDs, and Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive, which forced you to switch discs as often as you had to switch 5.25" floppies back in the early 80s. Maybe more often. I think Overseer also had six discs, and also included a DVD. Anyway, yeah, Riven was up there but it wasn't the highest. :P

GameTap pulled the plug on Myst Online: Uru Live a few months ago. I think because there weren't enough subscriptions or it wasn't making as much money as they had hoped. It had only been around for about a year, but at least GameTap gave it a chance (unlike Ubisoft, who pulled the plug after a month or two).

I don't really understand this. To me it is completely opposite.

Every Myst puzzle has an internal logic to it, and in the first game they actually weren't too hard to figure out. Like you see water flowing by a water wheel, and there's this pipe that leads away, so you follow the pipe and logically turn valves to lead the flow of water toward points of interest in order to power them.

Meanwhile in Zork you have to chase away the goblin by rubbing a jar to make a genie come out and scare him, and then you can get the cheeseburger that was behind him and go attack the gnome with it, and you find out afterwards that it defeated him because he was cheeseburger-intolerant.

Thus why I didn't post much more info. Them as want to know, will click though, them as will sit around and make fun, will do that. No skin off my back.

I do believe it's about the only convention based on love of a video game, although the D'niverse is pretty damn extensive past that first game. S'bit like saying Middle Earth is only found in The Hobbit.

We get together, we socialize, we share theories, we show off our creations, we do stuff. This year has contests and games (including something that's starting to shape up to be a bit like the Omegathon, only more specialized), it's slowly evolving into having panels and discussions and such. Who knows, maybe someday we'll hit hundreds of people.

There might even be something to do with the Myst Movie this year...

I have a whole 30-something posts? Wow, I talk more than I thought.

Here, the current PR... is that better?

Mysterium will be held in Boston, Massachusetts from July 25th to July 27th.

    OUR HOTEL:
Hilton Garden Inn ~ Burlington, MA
Located just 15 miles NW of downtown Boston, and 11 Miles from Logan Airport, this beautiful hotel offers us everything we need, and then some!
We have graciously been given a room rate of $95/night for Friday and Saturday nights (plus 9.7% total tax) for occupancy of up to 4 people per room. You can register online, here at our RESERVATON PAGE

    REGISTRATION:
As previously announced, Mysterium will have a registration fee this year. This fee goes to cover hotel and materials costs, allowing us to bring you the best Mysterium possible, funded by the community, rather than individuals.
We have an easy to use registration form that will calculate your fees for you, take you straight to paypal to make your payment, and then send the whole form to us. Please see our REGISTRATION PAGE for the registration rates and form.

    LOGO CONTEST WINNERS
We are pleased to announce that the winners of the 2008 Mysterium logo contest are

Daniel ‘Floydman’ Floyd and Claire ‘Shoom’lah’ Hummel
You can view the winning entries, and the other entrants HERE

Tshirts and other nifty items featuring their artwork are now available at our Mysterium CafePress Store

Congratulations to you both, and thank you to everyone who entered!

    MYSTERIUM AUCTIONS
Between now and Mysterium, we will be having several items up for grabs on Ebay, suitable for any Myst fan’s collection!

You can view all active auctions HERE

    ROOMMATES
Looking for someone to share a hotel room with? We now have a roommate matching system to help you find others who are looking to share a hotel room and split expenses to help make you trip more affordable and stress free. Visit our roomshare page HERE

    PRESENTATIONS:
We are trying something new this year for Presentations, by offering three different formats for groups & individuals to share their works with the community:

Display- Table space for displaying artwork, crafts or other creative efforts.

Small Group- For a small class, panel or smaller presentation.

Performance or Presentation- For larger presentation to all Mysterium attendees

Further details about each option, presentation rules and requirements, and registration, are available now on our Presentations Page HERE

    PAPER PEOPLE
Once again, we invite those D’niverse fans who can’t join us in the flesh to join us on paper. Please send your picture in jpg format, with an 8×10 print size, to paperpeople@mysterium.net

    EVENTS
Have we got some fun stuff planned for this year! Visit our Events Page for a preview!

    PRIZES & MATERIALS
One of the things that makes Mysterium great is the amount of community involvement, and one way you can be involved – even if you aren’t able to attend Mysterium – is through the donation of prizes or materials.

If you create items that are directly related to the D’niverse (like Journey Cloths, or linking book replicas), or are thematically similar (like journals, or art of Age-like locations), we’d like to invite you to donate an item or two for prizes at Mysterium. In the past Mysterium has awarded prize winners journals, decorated cones, Journey Hand necklaces and more. Unique prizes are an inspiration to everyone! Please contact us at info@mysterium.net for donation instructions.

If you have materials you think might be useful to us, like button blanks, or printer paper, we may be willing to find a use for them! Please contact us at info@mysterium.net

    TRANSPORTATION
Jet Blue has several specials to Boston right now, check them out!
We recommend that attendees NOT use American Airlines if at all possible, given their new $15 fee for a standard checked bag.
Manchester Ariport (MHT) is less than 50miles from the hotel, and there is a free shuttle that goes from the airport to the regional transit center near the hotel. Booking a flight to that airport may be cheaper!

If I get in trouble with the mods, it's all yer fault :)
