According to wiki, this movie was budgeted $75 million. Think about that.

The first in a planned trilogy about Genghis Khan.

Seems fairly self explanatory.

Not to be confused with the long delayed live-action remake of
Wait Till Your Father Gets Home.
June 11:Encounters at the End of the World [limited]
Director: Werner Herzog
(
imdb,
wiki,
official website (sorry, couldn't find an apple trailer)
This is the newest documentary by Werner Herzog. It is about Antarctica. Now you may be asking yourself who Werner Herzog is. The short answer is that he is a crazy man. He also directed
Rescue Dawn. My guess is that in this film he finds out the nature is beautiful but perilous and that the people who surround themselves by nature are also sort of crazy in a neat way.
June 13:The Incredible HulkDirector: Ang L...I mean, Louis Leterrier
(
imdb,

I've never seen a series rebooted after only one movie.
The HappeningDirector: M. Night Shyamalan
(
imdb,
wiki,
apple trailer)
Alright, so new M. Night film. And it is being touted as his "first R-rated film". I found that a little hard to believe. Surely one of those previous films of his was rated R. So let us muse over his past works and movie ratings with the following directorial list:
Praying with Anger (1992) - PG-13
Wide Awake (1998) - PG (A family comedy? Where the hell did this one come from?)
The Sixth Sense (1999) - PG-13 (So it was only PG-13. Huh.)
Unbreakable (2000) - PG-13
Signs (2002) - PG-13
The Village (2004) - PG-13
Lady in the Water (2006) - PG-13
Jesus, the man is a PG-13 machine.
June 20:Get SmartDirector: Peter Segal
(
imdb,
wiki,
apple trailer)
Mmm, Anne Hathaway. But let's go ahead and do the math on this one. The age difference between Don Adams and Barbara Feldon was about 9 years. The age difference between Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway is 20 years. Cradle robber.
The Love GuruDirector: Marco Schnabel
(
imdb,
wiki,
apple trailer)
Hold on there, Adam Sandler. You're not the only one who can be a former SNL cast member to play a wacky ethnicity. Oh, those ethnicities. They so wacky. Alright, to be fair, his character is an American who was merely raised by...gurus (not quite sure what that means, color me ignorant). Justin Timberlake might do some funny work here, though.
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl [limited]
Director: Patricia Rozema
(
imdb,
wiki,
apple trailer)
I don't know anything about the American Girl line of dolls and books other than that my sister was really into them and that Kit Kittredge is a pretty lame excuse for a name. We'll see what Abigail Breslin can do with the role. And by that, I mean I will not be seeing what Abigail Breslin does with the role.
Brick Lane [limited]
Director: Sarah Gavron
(

June 27:WALL•EDirector: Andrew Stanton
(

The difference between WALL-E and other robots is that he has big eyes, therefore he is fucking adorable.
WantedDirector: Timur Bekmambetov
(

This looks fairly awful. However, this is the guy that does all the
Watch movies (Day, Night, Twilight, Bay, Pocket, Wrist, Tornado, Hurricane), so what do I know?

And you, in what way will you spend your monies?

Kung-fu panda is either going to be 12 kinds of fun/awesome or like the worse movie ever. Who knows, martial arts and animals, how can you really go wrong?
beyond that, eh two comedies that might be okay but I have no reason to believe they will be based on experience, and The Happening which, I admit looks interesting, but I don't really like M. Night Shyamalan much at all. If my friends like it, I'll see it.
I have a very timid interest in a few others but those will probably make it on the "wait for rental" list.
That Wanted trailer is a bit odd. It started out really lame, but it kinda got cooler as it went on, and then got lame again. Since usually you can have a badass trailer for any movie no matter how terrible it turns out to be, this doesn't exactly will me with confidence.
Wanted the comic was an abomination and this looks even worse.

Love Guru is a maybe. Zohan...eh...It'll probably be like Resident Evil: Apocalypse where I go, but I'm not happy...(or quiet because if it's like RE:A, me and my friends will be the ONLY PEOPLE THERE the second weekend it's out, so no one to be nice to)
The Happening doesn't entice me. I mean c'mon. Why not just call it "Crazy Shit Goin' On".
Get Smart...my friends are huge Steve Carell fans. I am too, but Evan Almighty has me worried that it might be a streak. (Although apparently he was good in Horton). And Anne Hathaway is goddamn gorgeous. I'll probably see it mostly for Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, and The Roc-I mean Dwayne Johnson.
Wanted I will avoid like the fucking plague.
July 18th. Be there.
I'll probably go see Wall-E just because it looks too adorable to resist. Also it gave me flashbacks to my childhood and Short Circut.
You know, I hadn't really looked into Kung-fu Panda at all. And it wasn't too long ago that I picked up Avatar: The Last Air Bender seasons one and two. So when I saw a preview before Iron Man I was really excited until the part of the preview where it becomes apparent it's not actually a movie about badass Kung-fu animals and is instead about Jack Black being funny.
I mean I like Jack Black so I think it still has potential but I was all excited for cute fuzzy animals beating the ever living hell out of each other there for a little bit and thus had my hopes (which were admittedly in their infant stages) crushed.
Also the OP scared the shit out of me for a second. The Dark Knight wasn't listed so I was thinking I had gotten June and July mixed up somehow.
My first thought when I saw the trailer the other day was "this is crap . . . I hope Morgan Freeman is only doing it to earn himself some cash for Rendezvous with Rama".
I'll save some money by not seeing The Happening since M. Night is a hack.
Get Smart is on my list, love the cast.
Wall-E is just too fucking adorable not to see.
And I'm not sure how I feel about the Incredible Hulk. Not quite my favorite hero, but I want it to do well after how fucking good Iron Man was.
Magic Online - Bertro
I fucking hate all the god damn Zohan and Love Guru previews that I've been subjected to. I hope they bomb and end their respective actors' careers.
Not gonna happen, I know.
Love Guru is Indian Austin Powers.
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
I like the actors in The Happening, but its an M. Night movie, so that ain't happening.
Get Smart is a must, probably the most after WALL*E this month.
June looks to be a slow month for me, only a couple strong movies.
Why?
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
Iron Man
Speed Racer
Indiana Jone: KOTCS
Sex & The City
Next up is:
Kung-Fu Panda
Wall-E
Dark Knight
Hulk
The Love Guru
Hancock
Cloverfield 2
Get Smart
X-Files
Hellboy 2
Plus it's directed by the guy who did Night Watch so it promises to be both confusing and awesome.
The "red band" trailer for The Happening is actually pretty creepy, and since I've only seen one of Shyamalan's movies* I'm not yet sick to death of the whole "what a twist!" thing.
*Guess which one...
I'm still oddly excited about Kung Fu Panda, especially since Ian "Cocksucker!" McShane is doing one of the voices.
I'm sure I'll have the DVD's for Get Smart and Not Another Ang Lee Hulk Movie sitting on my pile o' Netflix things to watch for a month or so.
This month's movies feel like a break between OMG MUST SEE blockbusters. Nice movies I'd like to see, but aren't emotionally invested in. WALL-E looks adorable, and I might just give Shammalammadingdong another go. Just enough to cleanse the palate and tide me over til next month for Hancock, Hellboy II (the trailer is so amazing looking I'm almost afraid to see the movie itself, for fear of crushing disappointment), AND Dark Knight. Basically a must see movie per week. Good times.
Also, after I get me some dinner, I'll update the OP with some info on Werner Herzog's newest documentary.
Hey, hey. Ben Foster played a great role in that movie and he was fucking crazy to boot.
Also going to see The Hulk (the new trailers and interviews have made me psyched.) Wall E and Wanted.
you're right! and I want to point it out because of how excellent he was. between that and 3:10 to yuma, and how great he was on Freaks And Geeks however long ago, I really hope he's around for a long time.
the walle love around here is hilarious.
The Hulk looks promising, but not interesting enough for me to splurge for another city movie ticket - probably wait for it to hit DVD.

Aside from that this month seems a good time to take the nephews to the movies.

Man its a good thing thing this is the July '08 thread, I might have missed seeing the dark knight otherwise
