Sata what?

So I got a DVD Burner. This one, to be exact:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151154

But I got no cable with it! My existing SATA cable is only running to my harddrive, and here I thought it'd function like an IDE cable. Well whoops. I was going to go buy one, but alas, there's a SATA II now? What? So I have no idea. Do I get SATA I, or SATA II?

TL:DR: SATAI and SATAII, can I use either with my DVD Drive, or do I use a specific one?

It depends on what your motherboard can support I think

EDIT: ... though generally the later models of cables are backwards compatible. I'm going to double check that and edit my post here real quick, just a second.

Backward compatibility between SATA 1.5 Gbit/s controllers and SATA 3.0 Gbit/s devices was important, so SATA/300's autonegotiation sequence is designed to fall back to SATA/150 speed (1.5 Gbit/s rate) when in communication with such devices. In practice, some older SATA controllers do not properly implement SATA speed negotiation. Affected systems require the user to set the SATA 3.0 Gbit/s peripherals to 1.5 Gbit/s mode, generally through the use of a jumper.

So basically if your motherboard is reasonably new, it should either have support for SATA II or it will jump to the prior version automatically... so if you get a SATA II cable, in most cases it will work regardless of what your device and motherboard support (as long as they support SATA at all, which it sounds like yours does judging by the fact that your hard drive is plugged into it using SATA ).
