Movies that give me eye orgasams.

I just finished watching District B-13 and when it was over it pumped me up so much that I ran around my condo doing some parkour. I jumped on my fouton, kicked my door frame, and then did a roll on the ground. I was the complete personification of awesome.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=XBDL_AGZ94w

Yeah man, I want to run around and do stuff.

So that got me thinking, what other movies out there are filled with tons of style that the make you want to really do something when you are done.

Others I can think of at the moment..

The 300. When I got done seeing that one on Imax I wanted to do some pushups and go to the gym. It was pure sex done with a ton of CG and film filters.

Casshern.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=emYqURahUKI

The second half of the movie was poop but the first half is pretty mind blowing for anyone who is a fan of anime and robots and stuff.

So what other movies out there should I watch? I don't want the mainstream things, I want those movies that are sitting lonely on the rental shelf (Netflix page?) that not everyone knows about but are so filled with style that once they are done you need to go run up a wall and punch someone in the face. Be it foreign, independent, or whatever, I want to see some crazy movies that are out of the mainstream that give my eyes some excitement.

Probably everyone's seen this, but I love Hero. All the different colours in the scenes. Glorious eye candy. In fact just thinking of it makes me want to watch it again right now. I never get tired of that one.

Fuck yes. I'm glad this got mentioned on the first page. Highly underrated movie.

EDIT: The Fountain and Sunshine were also excellent movies. Glad to have seen them in theaters.

MirrorMask was... well, with that art direction it had every right to be an amazing visual experience. The story itself is a little trite, but it's satisfying and enjoyable. You get the feeling while watching it, though, that the technology they used for it just couldn't do the visuals justice. There are some absolutely spectacular scenes, and it has some great writing behind it, especially with regards to the thematic elements constantly at play.

It's not a great movie, but it's definitely worth seeing at least once, just for certain scenes. I can just say that I enjoy watching it enough to have bought my own copy, even if it does lift heavily from Neverending Story and other such escape fantasy films.

Oh, and the Sphinxes were more disturbing and awkward than anything else. They were supposed to be disturbing, I suppose, but they just don't look right. Bad choices were made when deciding how to make them, I think.

I'm a whore for anything David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en) does as well as Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Pi, The Fountain). Both are brilliant visual artists.

I hear The Fall is a visual orgasm on celluloid as well.

So Sunshine was that good, eh? I've been interested in it for a while now, I really gotta rent it one of these days.

    Eye orgasm?

I caught an episode of Wild China a few weeks ago. It's a new documentary by the BBC. It was amazing, with some of the most beautiful visuals I've ever seen. It showed me that China is fucking huge with a lot of different biotopes and filled with the most amazing animals and plants in the world. There are still cultures out there that travel around nomad style.

In that trend, while I haven't seen it, I hear Planet Earth is pretty awesome too.

It is the trailer, simply because I don't want to spoil the movie for you. It is visually stunning, the fight sequences are incredible, the story's good, and it just surprised the hell out of me when I first picked it up as a DVD rental.

It is probably my favourite 'foreign' film.

Ah yes, Le Pacte des loups, I'd forgotten about that. Great film, and proof that Marc Dacascos should have had a bigger carrer in the states. He's a far better martial arts star, than food show host.

What are you doing with those apostrophes? Why are they there?

I guess I'll add something here as well. A lot of people were really down on Silent Hill for the plot being a bit weak, or the film not doing this or that. In the end though, it's a terrific feast for the eyes, with an incredible atmosphere and masterfully realized terrors straight out of the games.

Wong Kar-Wai makes beautiful, albeit excruciatingly vague, films.

Park-Chan Wook's vengeance trilogy is a visual feast.

Zhang Yimou has a talent for sumptuous visuals.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ...And Spring is another gem.

The Third Man is wonderful and anyone with an eye for cinematography needs to see it.
