I hope you understand that I meant this in the literally "more curvy" way, not in the "I'm really overweight but I don't want to say that in my dating profile" curvy way.
I just felt the character was shaped too much like a cereal box, rather than like a lady.
Hrm. :?
You may not find my paintover all that helpful then.
But seriously it's looking good.
See, that right there is the part that can't be taught.
Just reposting two old things from my old thread, after comments in Chat thread.
First is a girl...I've actually worked on it a bit since I posted this image, but I tried "faking" the hair a bit and totally screwed it up. I'm not sure if I'll erase and go back to it or not - it was just a study, and it did what I wanted it to do.
Second is a dragon...I had a lot of fun with the rendering, but the design is cliché (I actually wasn't thinking of "designing" a dragon, I just wanted to draw one, haha)....and the perspective of the mouth is wrong. Again, like with the girl, I may or may not come back to this, but chances are slim.
That really is unbelievably awesome, finished that would be totally worthy of a full page in an Expose annual.
If I didn't know better i'd think some 3D work had gone into it.
If I may ask, was the girl a study in a photorealistic effect, or something else?
I did it as a personal test. I wanted to see how accurately I could render something with color.
It's actually not incredibly accurate when compared with the photo reference I used...but this was also a few years ago...and it pulled off what I wanted, I guess.

So the colors weren't referenced? That's pretty amazing, and quite a bit more accurate than anything I'd have pulled off.
Oh, nono, the colors were also referenced. The reference photo was in color. I think I may've pushed the colors a bit in the drawing, and changed the contrast in some areas (I can't remember if that was intentional or not, haha) but yeah. It was basically just a "copying a photo freehand, in color" study.
Ah, I see; still impressive with the freehand; especially with the hair and the subtlety of the skin tones (and the reflections in the eyes!). Is it the sort of thing you might try again at some point?
I think I know what you mean about the rough look; in my school's art building, they had a poster of a Degas painting, and most of it looks pretty detailed, but up close you can see that the folds of people's shirts, for instance, were done in a single stroke, which is pretty crazy when you see how perfectly it works.
I think you're right about the speedpaint and the "rough" look, especially with the toga(?) and the front of the hairdo. I feel like some of the parts where you're using a smaller brush don't work quite as well, especially in the arm and the shoulder, but it's still quite impressive.

A woman wearing a toga in ancient Rome meant that she was an adulterer, disreputable, or a prostitute. Women wore a tunica and stola over it and maybe a palla if they felt like it.
Thats a pretty good speed paint, how long was it? Like 3 hours?
30 minutes, actually. It's not a very involved picture.
Are you just using default round brushed, ND?
For 90% of it, yeah. I think I used one or two texture brushes, and did a few strokes in a soft round brush...but for the most part it was just a hard round brush in different sizes.

"Jennifer Mills: she is better than you."

Edit: Waittt that looks like digital painting not painting painting
it..is a digital painting.

Glorious work NightDragon!
Beer is the perfect lubricant for twisted and vile animal gibberish. I use it myself when the times are ripe and my need great.

Thank you muchly!
no bugs on Firefox
Do you mean using DIV's for the entire layout? Or........wut
Hah! Good find.
[edit] fix'd.
