I'd say the top one and upgrade the video card. 2GB of ram is quite enough to play most games, and if you've got 100-150 bucks you can get a better/newer Nvidia card than the one you have.
I'd go with 2 personally, but either way the best way to get a nice upgrade is a GPU in 2. While 1's got the CPU clock, that single-core thing's gonna be hurting now that games are getting more and more optimized for multi-core CPUs.
Well, from the looks of things 2 is a laptop, so if you're gonna use that definately invest in a mouse cause trackpad gaming is the worst. I think it really depends on the game though, those that aren't dual core optimized (so slightly older ones) would probably run better on 1, while those that are would probably run better on 2.
Ooh then yeah it's tougher. The basics are still there though from my first post.
2's got a better GPU, and the CPU is going to perform better with multithreading-optimized games.
1's got a better CPU in terms of clock speed, but a worse GPU.
It kind of depends on the games, like Wezoin said. Older games play on 1 probably, but newer games I'd play on 2.
ya, I would say game on 2 for now, and just buy a new computer when you can. a P4 3.4 really is no good anymore, I'd chuck that thing out the nearest airlock, and buy a new one when you can.

By new GPU, do you mean a new graphics card?
Thanks for all replies thus far.
I think I'm gonna take your advice and build a custom PC for around $1000 whenever I get the money.
