Get used to the game will just the vanilla (no mods). Eventually when the Last Days mod is released for the new version, you will be skilled enough to kick some warg tail.

    Dear God...

    What a game...

Why must you tempt me so with your six level limit? You tease me with promises of such awesomeness, only to pull it back as soon as I get a hold of my first AWOLers that were going to go into slavery.

Now that I've been seduced by M&B, I have no choice but to purchase it as a special Christmas gift for myself.

By the way, any possibilities of multiplayer in the future? I would love to have multiplayer Mount & Blade Arena where people can fight against eachother in random # on # battles, while the other players get to watch from the stands. Maybe even have a betting system.

    Well, a guy can dream.

Another succumbs to the siren song of M&B.

Your reactions are identical to all those of us who have fallen prey to its grasp.

    Now you're one of us.

That said, no; no multiplayer in the foreseeable future but every single person who has ever posted in an M&B thread wishes it were so. Start with Vanilla and enjoy the hell out of it, then move on to some of the better mods (The Last Days (LotR), Holy War (Crusades), Fantasy Mod (High Fantasy), Rome Total War (Roman)), and enjoy your time with this wonderful game. I promise you that you will be coming back to it time and time again for a long time. I have an affair with this game every two months or so, and have done so since I bought the game maybe two years ago.

I'm gonna be honest. If this game were looking current gen and had decent exposure. I bet it would have blown Oblivion out of the water.

Of course, that's just personal opinion. So please, don't flame me back to the stone age. I'm just saying that this game is absolutely awesome and will rule you, in a big way.

Honestly, yes it would have. But with it only being done by Armagen and his close at hands, it keeps a funfactor that might have been lost with a larger company. We may not have had such wonderful patches if done with a larger company (emphasis on MAY because i could be wrong as shit). With a fully fleshed out story in the future, this definately could blow the latest PC RPG out the water, now if only it could be featured in one of the big gaming magazines, cause this is the real indy shit people keep harping about saving gaming! Fact is, YOU OWE it to send him money for those 6 levels of glory.

Of course, which is why I am sending him my money. I don't feel at all bad about it, because this game rocks. Vanilla is an absolute blast, and the fact that it is easily modifiable allows for more and more new content. Well worth the 18 bucks.

They get new weapons automatically as you upgrade them when they level up.

This game does NOT have starforce (it uses a different copyprotection).

I'm afraid so. Now, there are a couple NPCs you can pick up that you can give weapons to. You have to talk to them and basically sell them shit. They'll use what they can.

This link is the unofficial M&B file repository. Everything you want is there. Also I am sure plenty of people around here will point you to some Grade-A mods.

Haha this is so awesome. I was just riding around when like 11 bandits decided to attack my lone self. So I simply killed all the ones on foot first, then slaughtered all the ones on horse back. I ended up getting two knights, and shortly after repeated the incident only with me as the attacker. That yielded two more soldiers. I'm up to like 5 now and its pretty freaking cool all charging the enemies and tearing them apart. :D

I can't seem to find the minimum system requirements anywhere on the official site. The closest I came was on the linked Wiki, which I don't believe for a second. (It says 66 mhz pentium, 2MB video ram, software light and deform or something to that effect... That can't be right, can it?)

Anyone know what kind of a beast I would need to try this game out?

    That one is very cool.

    Arvid's texture pack
This one improves the game's graphics. Always fun.

    Inventory Chest Locator
Insanely handy mod that adds a big red banner where your chest is on the battle field.

Also you can easily replace the original music with your own selection. All you have to do is make sure the track you want has the same name as the track you are replace. Might be a good idea to back up the original tracks first. I suggest some selection from Medieval 2.

    766mhz processor
    128mb RAM
video card with at least 32mb.
100 mb of hard drive space.

With the new graphics, you'll definitely feel the burn on an older machine.

As much as I would like to use that battle size mod for a fight between 100+ people, my framerate drops to 20 with the normal max of 40.

Ok, I tried the game now.

Arena battles were fun, but then I tried to leave town...

Encountered 8 bandits during a caravan escort.

    Got knocked out...

Game reverted to a screen telling me I now encounter 6 bandits and I can charge them again.

So I do, and get knocked out again...

Game reverts to a screen telling me to charge 8 more bandits.

And I do, and still get knocked out...

    Game tells me#%#/¤(O"/(O!!!!

Notice a pattern here? WTF is going on?

Last time I got knocked out, I got captured... why the fuck does the battle seemingly reset?

EDIT: Fuck it. I just registered. I just hope the game stays indie for a long time.

EDIT 2: How do you pick up weapons from fallen soldiers? Bloody being last and stuck with a bow in an arena fight isn't fun...

EDIT 3: I'm so fucking mad right now. All swings seem to go the same speed and that simply doesn't work in up-close combat. I need a fast attack! And the game seriously needs inverse kinetics. These fucking swings in mid air which gives you damage sucks. It could use an instant replay mode as well so you can see if the game screwed you over or not, but I guess its not accurate enough for that yet (kinda like the old EA NHL games, until SEGA came along and showed them how its supposed to be done).

EDIT 4: That female arena fighter named Xerina has now one-shot-killed me with a bow THREE fucking times now in various battles. I'd love to know how she does that, since it takes me about 5 shots with 10-15 damage each to down a guy.

EDIT 5: Another arena fighter named Kradius just one-shit killed me as well! Bug?

EDIT 6: Definetly some sort of bug, perhaps unrelated, but the aiming reticle of my bow only showed up when I wasn't firing, and it looked like it was 100% accurate. Then, when I tried to fire, my character fired in every direction but the one I was facing (and I never got a reticle while holding down the trigger).

My character when I stopped playing was sitting somewhere around 250 in both Archery and Horse Archery. Your reticle is disappearing because your accuracy sucks. If you hold steady for a moment, your reticle will reappear in the screen eventually.

I highly reccomend you get off the horse if you want to fire while mounted. Using a tree and horse as a barrier between you and them can work wonders, especially as you get used to the game.

Thanks for the tips. I am enjoying a shield lying on the water, but I am not really happy with the way you can start with elite units, and that every damn enemy anywhere is mounted. I loved to build up my own army of comrades by fighting progressively harder enemies and gathering equipment for myself. In this mod the game feels very static, with me fighting the same old enemis while replacing my dead with the same old units.
