3GPP file problem

A buddy emailed me a video he shot with his cell phone. It's in the 3GPP format, so it's supposed to play in Quicktime. When I use Quicktime, all I get is the audio.

Anyone know if there's a dedicated PC viewer for this file type I can download?

Just grab VLC. That should do it, and it should play most other things you can throw at it.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

Tried that, but no dice. I think the file might be corrupt. Thanks though.

It's probably the video codec, then. 3gpp is just a container which can actually have different audio and video codecs. Windows does not come with the codec for one of the very common ones. I have to work with this crap at work sometimes and had to fight with this a year or so ago. I'll dig around to see if I've still got info on where I got the codec installer.

edit: I'm not seeing anything that is obviously the codec installer on this computer, so I probably deleted it. Here is a link to a codec package that I believe will do the trick for you. You do have to sign up on the web site, I believe it is free, I make no promises about spam or privacy or anything and am not vouching for this company in any way.
