I thought the trailer was building up to the point at the end where they would just show shots from the original 2D games with their midi music and sound.

So, they spent 4 fucking minutes showing the same 8 pictures and logos to promote THREE new Duke games.

    Double you

This is kinda funny, haha, yeah we get it 3DR, you think this is all a big joke. Well, for your sakes I hope the game never comes out now, because that kind of pretentious "look at us we're funny we make fun of ourselves" crap only works if you can turn around 30 seconds later and deliver unadulterated awesomness on a fucking platinum and diamond sex machine. But I know it's going to be less than worthy of a decade in development Hell and the overhype is reaching Daikatana proprotions even John Romero would be embarrassed by. Fuck you and your game and your nonsense. This has gone beyond funny to the point that I fucking swear I will buy a copy just so I can take a shit in the box and mail it to the developers with a note attached saying, "See? Now that's funny."

    Hahah

It's actually 1 game with three parts, referred to as a Trilogy. Kind of like Die Hard Trilogy on the PS1.

haha so it's even more ridiculous.

I bought Die Hard Trilogy 2 just because I thought the name was hilarious. I should probably give it a try. Do you know if it is any good?

Let me remember.. let's see... my memory is going back.. back.. to the days that I used to read Gamepro... back, further...

I believe I remember GamePro's review saying that the first Die Hard Trilogy was better than the sequel.

But I cannot remember the reasoning. Something about the sequel having a shoddy on-foot shooting bit.

They might as well have walked around E3 and asked people, ' Are you a Duke Nukem fan? '.

And then kick them in the nuts if said yes.

Would probably be less painful then watching this trailer.

if it was anything at all like the arcade die hard game (i can't remember if that was called die hard trilogy too), then yes.

Die Hard Trilogy on PS1 was actually nothing like the arcade game.

DHT on PS1 is actually 3 games in one title. And all three games are good.

DHT's on foot action sequences are not just run and gun, but require some strategy to each situation. You have to make use of cover and be aware of your surroundings to get through the levels, and ambush enemies.

The second game of DHT is a railgun shooter. Kind of like a lightgun shooter. It's supposed to be quite fun and have an exciting backdrop for this part of the game (an airport)

The third part of the game is the race/car chase bit through New York City. It's like Driver, only better. With wisecracks from John McClane. The race is to defuse bombs.

The game was praised for great controls and graphics (for its time, obviously), whilst having 3 very different yet very fun gameplay aspects that each stand on their own.

Now, Die Hard Trilogy 2, Viva Las Vegas, this game was crap.

Again, it's a third person shooter, a light gun style game, and a race/car chase game.

Apparently the third person shooter parts are extremely samey to the first one's; levels even being closely mimmicked. Apparently the levels are not as challenging or rewarding either.

The rail shooter bits, apparently, are also very samey as the first. Similar locale and such. But more cluttered. And not as challenging, with enemies, but challenging in that the gun periphs you can use don't work as well as they should.

Finally, they totally fucked up the driving part of the game. The car doesn't handle well, the objectives are stupid (run over people/bombs), and it's just a chore.

So basically, the first game nailed down three formulas that stand on their own, packed into one great game. The sequel basically rehashed the first, watered down the gameplay and difficulty, and messed up the controls.

Neither is like the arcade game, which was kind of like a beat'em up with guns.

And where does Vendetta fit into this?

Die Hard Vendetta. It's supposedly a pretty bad first person shooter with some mediocre stealth and 'hero' mechanics thrown in. Linear, repetitive, and boring, with very little variety or modes to keep it interesting.

It's story takes place 5 years after Vengeance. McClane's daughter is kidnapped by the daughter of Gruber, the villian of the first movie.

The only thing that trailer convinces me of is that 3DRealms at least has a logo artist/flash animator who does work at the studio.

They should have titled Zero Hour DNF and been done with it. Or a straight remake of Duke 3D with the Source engine.
