For some unknown reason I didn't think the NDS guitar hero would do so well, but it's cool that it did.

Woah, great month for the PS3.

But I'm trying to remember. Was it TSR that said he guaranteed the PS3 would outsell the Wii in June? Close (...relatively), but no cigar.

    360 got hammered, though.

I don't know how to say it without coming off as a troll. but with all the perfect 10 hype around MGS4 and that being a system seller, I expected better then 500,000,

So I guess that just makes me the dummy

    400k Hardware

    700k sales.

Someone analyze the MGS4 effect for me. I dont see which side of the fence this falls on.

Was it good, boosted hw, or bad, that the two numbers were so close maybe everyone who wanted MGS4 already had one.

Looks eerily similar to the Halo 3 bump - percentage wise.

I don't know how to say it without coming off as a troll. but with all the perfect 10 hype around MGS4 and that being a system seller, I expected better then 500,000,

So I guess that just makes me the dummy

better than four hundred thousand $400-500 consoles in one mid-year month? really?

edit: fixed that, i read 'double 360' and assumed half a mill

400k is very, very impressive for PS3.

I hope that they realize some of the reason it did this well was because of the 80GB's backwards compatability.

Weekly hardware sales are up 55.4% over last month of the PS3.

Said Frazier, "As expected, Metal Gear Solid 4 realized significant retail sales and drove PS3 hardware acquisition. While the attached media report does not include units bundled with hardware, if included MGS4 sold-through nearly 1 million units."
So MGS4 pushed about ~225k bundles alone.

81,100 per week this month. It sold much better, but it is obviously not the PS3s savior.

It's not quite as impressive as it looks because of the way NPD divides months, some end up longer than others.

Which actually makes the 360 numbers look a bit worse.

i think the point is the ps3 no longer needs a 'savior' to perform very well

it was much less 'mgs4' and more 'great new bundle and great retail deals' (ie walmart)

    208.7k last month for PS3 (4 weeks) = weekly 52,175
    405.5k this month for PS3 (5 weeks) = weekly 81,100

    Jump of 28,925/wk, or a 55% increase.

Wow, that's a nice healthy bump for the PS3. I was thinking that it wouldn't be much of a bump because gamers would have gotten a PS3 already for DMC4 or GTA4 but I guess I was wrong. (Now that I think about it, they probably would have gotten the 360 version if they already have that system)

As for the DS, I underestimated that and overestimated the Wii. Oh well. Nintendo, you and your silly supply issues!

    yes

but sony can pull out a good deal whenever they want - the point is they don't need a multi-million dollar Kojima production to do it, which are generally harder to come by

edit: okay maybe not 'whenever they want', but, you know.

So they just need to have a deal that will probably lose them a lot of money and possibly prevent them from making a profit. That is better?
