I also enjoy a Diaz brother fightning. I was STUNNED when Nick kept the fight vs Lawler on their feet... and then pounded him.

Well, now I'm a fan of Nate Diaz. I like his brother, but Nate impressed me so much tonight. So incredibly slippery, using all kinds of interesting moves to pass guard, (so much stepping over!). Diaz had the characteristic aggressive style, and was able to carry that very well to the jiu-jitsu, willing to put himself in danger in order to do something. I'm amazed that Neer was able to take his back and generally neutralize Nate so well, Neer must have been practicing a ton of groundwork in the leadup to the fight. After the first round though I thought it was obvious that Neer had zero chance of subbing Diaz, the best Neer could do was keep Diaz at bay.

    Solid fight, go Diaz!

This is from cnnsi's coverage of the fight. Translation (I guess) of his post-fight speech.
"Josh Neer, he ain't no black belt in Jiu-Jitsu like the other guys I've been fighting. This (expletive), this dude right here can fight. All these other Jiu-Jitsu guys and (expletive) and wrestlers, ya'll need to learn how to box. Get in here and fight us. This dude is down."

"I train hard. I just try to work my [butt] off, I ain't quitting. Neither is that dude (pointing at Neer)."

Maybe having your arm ripped off and getting beaten to death with it... but that's probably the MMA equivalent. That is rough.

Feel bad for Houston. It seemed as if he was going to go off like a rocket. I guess he needs to go back to the drawing board and add a couple of more dimensions to his game.

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing that he pretty much refuses to learn some BJJ. That, added with the fact that he has a bit of a glass chin, means he won't win too often against top competition. It's a bummer since he seems like a decent guy and he has alot of mouths to feed.

Also, I'm really hoping Leben knocks out Bisping in their upcoming fight.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there's a 1% chance that Leben even inconveniences Bisping, let alone knocks him out. I know you some of you guys don't like Bisping, for whatever reason, but he's completely overwhelmed two admittedly lesser fighters (since he moved down, that's ignoring what he did as a light heavyweight). I like Leben, I do, but I think Bisping's too athletic to get caught with a big punch and I think that's all Leben's got.

Yeah. Getting subed by someone's shin. It squishes your larynx and leaves you raspy for days.

So are we seriously hearing bullshit about Couture/Lesner? Is this really going to happen?

It's fairly exciting to me, just from the standpoint that I have no CLUE who will win. Also, Bisping will never lose as long as he fights in the UK. Not because of the "crowd's emotion", or being the "hometeam", but because the UFC has already demonstrated that he doesn't lose in the UK.

I hate both of these guys, moreso leben though. I think Bisping is technically better but that Leben could give him a run for his money. Ideal result; double ko.

    Um what?

This better not be for the belt. Nog was the interim champ, he should get first shot on the belt. Even then, Lesnar shouldnt get a title shot next. I mean

Nog is the interim champ. Randy left on his fedor fit.
    Mir beat Lesnar
Yet were getting Lesnar vs Randy, possibly for the belt?

Um no, give it to the guys who have been here for a bit. Nog vs Mir, then the winner fights the winner for Couture vs Lesnar

Cango. The fights will occur in that order. The only thing is that they may call the Couture/Lesnar fight a championship fight (to pump it of obviously, not because it is). I agree Nog Mir should be a title fight, since Nog has the title now, so it makes no sense to retrograde the title to Randy, but I don't care THAT much, since all 3 seem like good fights.

The press release for the fight says that Couture "will defend his title" against Lesnar. So it's at least possible that by the end of the year we could have Brock Lesnar, UFC heavyweight champion.

I believe they run with two titles, for the time being. Couture meets Lesnar at UFC 91 for the heavyweight title, Nogueira meets Mir at UFC 92 for the interim heavyweight title, the two title holders after those events meet sometime in early 09 to fold the interim title back into the heavyweight one.

While this is a fairly unique situation, I don't want to get to WWE levels of title stupidity. Otherwise it could get to the point where anyone who vacates the title is not the champ... until they come back and UFC wants to market them as the champ.

Hopefully one will choke out the other, but horribly dislocate something as he does, and the one that gets choked out won't tap CUZ HE'S TOUGH, and he'll wet himself when he's unconscious.

Yea, and maybe tag-team? Like Nog-Mir vs Lesnar-Couture, and the winner gets to fight for the title. It could be no holds barred too.

So anyone else excited for Dream 6? The Dream events have been getting better and better and this one looks like it will continue the tradition. I'm pretty excited to see CroCop back in action against a named opponent, but I have feeling that Overeem will be too much for him.

I'm also looking forward to the conclusion of middleweight tournament. All four of the remaining fighters look like they have a good chance winning the event, but I'm guessing Jacare's ground game will be just too much for the other opponents.

Dream 6 should be a great night of fights. I like CroCop so I'm rooting for him against Overeem. Mirko's stand up is great, of course, and I read that Dean Lister has been helping him on the ground. I think he takes it.

And I think Jacare takes the tournament, as well. After seeing him beat Mayhem Miller(my original pick to win), I don't think anyone else can handle him.

Hey so can I talk training briefly? I thought here might be a better place to ask than H/A, but maybe not.

I got my little toe wrenched pretty good at training tonight, in some kind of sweep (from standing). Anyway, anyone here experienced toe injuries? It wasn't (isn't) so painful that I had to stop training. It has purpled up nicely, and is still pretty painful some hours after the event. Although I think I can still bend it (with little toes, they never really bend much anyway right?) it's damn painful to do so.

Any warning signs to look for if it could be broken or something (or would that be the kind of agonising pain that makes me want to lie down?) And if so should I get it checked out or is it like cracked ribs where really there's bugger all you can do about it?

Tape it up (maybe to the toe next to it as well, to keep it straight). There's nothing else you can really do with a pinky toe, even if it's broken, unless it's shattered or something. It's all a doctor could do for you, beyond giving you some pain meds and orthopedic shoes. Wear loose shoes so you don't rub on it, if you can, and keep it elevated. When the swelling goes down, you'll be fine.

As to using a pain threshold to determine a break... that doesn't really work. I've walked around with a broken foot for a week before. Everyone's pain threshold is different for breaks and cuts.

The knee that ended the fight, along with any chance of Crocop having kids, happens about two minutes in I've read that his right testicle actually went inside his pelvic area, although I'm not sure how true that is.

Well Judo is going well this year. We have an all female adult class that I am going to. The one problem is that they are all smaller older womena nd an uneven number. My size seems to freak them out so I get to work with my solidly build Brown Belt friend. Fuck is he ever solid!

Also the club had an opening in teh childrens class so now I have to get my 7 year old her own Gi. She wants a blue one like mine so she can look like a voidwalker too! (Ah yes a family of geeks!) I am so excited that she gets to take Judo as well.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the coaches do, I didn't realize Frank Mir had this much personality. (I know, I know, I should have, I'm an MMA noob, etc. etc. I'm sorry)
