I just don't think the earthquake hit us. I have an xbox 360 standing up vertically in my bedroom and when I woke up it was still standing, and nothing had moved or been affected.

my parents live in Carlsbad. My mom said she didn't feel anything at their house but apparently my dad felt it in his office in downtown San Diego

How do you get a town named Carlsbad?

Like, a bunch of pioneers were moving out west and one of em goes "hey guys lets build our town here!" and the rest of them were like "No, Carl, this is a terrible spot. Actually this is such a stupid Goddamned idea that we're going to name our town after you being a dumbass. Fuck you, Carl."

I know I hate the name too, i've had to live here all my life but next year I should be going to L.A.

The place really isn't that bad but if you live anywhere this long it gets boring.

Carlsbad's history begins with the Luiseño people who located one of their villages, Palamai, near what is today Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Modern-day Carlsbad came about when in the 1880s a former sea captain named John Frazier dug a well for water. He began offering his water at the train station and soon the whistle-stop became known as Frazier's Station. A test done on a second fresh-water well found the water to be chemically similar to one of the most famous spas in Europe in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad), Czech Republic.

I was sleeping when the quake hit.

I was having a dream that I was pitching TV shows, and that it was going well. So when the apartment swayed and woke me up, my groggy first thought was "this a really weird way to market a show."

Then I just let the shaking rock me back to sleep.

also I was up pretty late last night/this morning, slept from about 8 something till 3 in the afternoon and didn't even realize we'd had an earthquake.

Mind you, I live in Orange County, which was really close to the source. I mean, a friend of mine felt it all th way in Las Vegas and I'm over here sleeping through it. I'm a fucking log. 24.gif

    Hey internet

my mom was driving to get some lunch during the earth quake with some of her friends

and she goes to park next to a van, but it's rocking all over the place

and she's like "I don't know if we should park there, those people are really going at it it looks like."

    And she parks anyway

and then she's like "Oh, shit, it's an earthquake!"

So I just got home a little while ago, and a quick check of the place yielded only minor damage in the form of some water being sloshed out of my cat's water bowls. I am therefore clear to apply for aid from FEMA, maybe they can get me a couple of ShamWows or something. :P

OK, apparently my fiancee who works in Santa Monica got the worst of it
Her building rattled for about a minute and the power went out
Meanwhile, at our apartment two miles away
    Nothing moved around
Not even the precariously piled dishes in the dishrack
