"You will soon have your God.." The Deus Ex 3 thread!
Just a teaser for now... But Jesus. Please be good. DX is my favorite game of all time.
Information will be updated as it becomes available.
What is the Deus Ex series?
Deus Ex is a series of FPS-RPG hybrid games set in a cyberpunk, dystopian 2050. A wide range of issues are presented, mostly in the form of conspiracy theories involving the Majestic 12 and the Illuminati, and humanity's place to question our own nature. Nanotechnology is a driving plot device as well as game mechanic in all games in the series.
What is Deus Ex 3?
We don't know. What is known is that Warren Spector and Harvey Smith, the driving creative force behind the previous two games in the series, are no longer involved. Jean-Francois Dugas is lead designer attached to a small team, so the release date is mid 2009 at earliest. DX3 will be developed using the Crystal Dynamics engine.
The trailer featured a ballotbox marked "Biopolitic 2027", although this date is absent in the high-definition trailer. It is not known whether this means the game may or may not be a prequel.
I'm trying not to think about DX3... I want it to be as ground-breaking as DX1, but I know that's not very likely. I'd settle for something as good as DX2 with less loading screens. (I just last week finished playing through Deus Ex again. I was tempted to replay DX2, but then I decided I just couldn't face all that loading. Well, that and the utterly meaningless decision-making.)
I *might* have been able to live with DX2, bite sized zones and all, if they hadn't overpromised to such a horrible degree. While I'm sure that it won't be anywhere near DX1, as long as they keep Harvey Smith away, I'll wait with cautious enthusiasm
DX2 wasn't THAT bad. I love that people try to act like the game doesn't exist..
There was no DX2.
... okay, there was, but if this is good, the series will go DX1 -> Inexplicable gap in history -> DX3.
The thing is, DX2's storyline was the only part of the game that was any good.
So there's no point in acting like it never existed.
Didn't the story contradict and ruin anything from DX1?
And with these games, they seem to be learning now that people won't just lap shit up because it has a brand name on it. So occasionally you get a sequel with a lot of effort in it.
Lets hope its in their camp.

Neither Warren Spector nor Harvey Smith, are involved in the development of DX3, so how it is still speculative how well the game will turn out to be.....

But the storyline WASN'T any good. It just invalidated the endings from DX1, then rehashed the themes, poorly.

Didn't DX2 try to say that all three of Deus Ex's endings happened? That doesn't make much sense to me considering one of the endings was the complete destruction of all technology that would have sent humanity back to the dark ages. Yet in DX2 they are even more advanced than DX1.
Did I miss something in DX2 that explains this? Please enlighten me, its been awhile since I played DX2.
Also I feel like an NMA-er for saying this, but DX2 felt too futuristic to me. Ugh I feel so dirty. . . .

A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
I really need to re-play DX1, haven't played it in years! The only problem is to where to get a hold of it
You've got to be kidding me.
Steam and gametap's marketing departments should be ashamed that this man exists. Ashamed, I say!
Well, Gametap only works in the US or Canada but this might be a reason for me to actually start using steam... Dunno while I haven't done it already, maybe because I haven't played a PC game I didn't really own the last few years (excluding Spore Creature Creator).

The merged endings I could just about deal with; DX2 was supposed to be twenty years later, so I could believe that people would reorganise themselves. But arcologies? Seriously? In twenty years, during a technological dark age? Wouldn't all the funding be going into reestablishing global communications and defending each city state?
I've been thinking that maybe a new Deus Ex game shouldn't even touch the storyline from the original game. Just ignore the other two games completely, maybe even lose the augmentation aspect. Like Boiling Point, if anybody played that. It was Deus Ex in a South American banana republic, and it was excellent, despite all of its bugs. Only real trouble I have with it is that it's just too large and sprawling, and I get bored with having to drive twenty miles between towns and villages all the time.
Oh and if you were interested in Snatcher, you might be interested in thismod. Not sure whether it'll ever get anywhere, but the initial stuff looks quite good.

Steam is absolutely fantastic these days, I highly recommend it. Shit......I'm going to re-install Deus Ex now again, aren't I?
I seem to remember someone working on a texture upgrade for the game, did that ever complete?

Is FFIV available on Steam? In that case it's a done deal. Also I use Windows 2003 Server, will that be a problem?
Someone did an analyis of this teaser a while ago. They concluded that the the game is likely a prequel to deus ex, and focuses on augmented humans becoming accepted in society.

And the themes they added were, frankly, tossed in there without any thought.
The whole Chad + Nicolette thing pissed me off. Not only did they fuck over their DE counterparts but the whole 'people can choose between spirituality and capitalism which makes everyone happy' just doesn't make sense.
Also:
In the good ending you make the humanity a hive mind, or at least approach that state of being.

Sadly, I don't think this game will be as good as the first, so much expectations.
Can trade TF2 items or whatever else you're interested in. PM me.
That's what we're all dreaming.

DX2 was a decent game. It was, however, a horrible DX sequel.

Not to rag on the thread or anything, it just seems odd to bring it back up with no new info.
Haha High Five!
On Topic (Maybe?) :

Reinstalling DX1 for the occasion. But that of course was expected.
If it's bad... well, I already repressed one game from my memory, I suppose I can do it again.
