Anyone know where I can get the music from that ad? I really liked it.

    It's Chopin's Raindrops Prelude Op. 25 no. 15.

    I think we're all forgetting Rare's greatest post-64 accomplishment:
    Xbox Live Avatars

But seriously, I liked the original Viva Pinata a lot and will be picking up the sequel. I'm also excited for the DS version allegedly coming out this year.

Banjo I have mixed feelings about, but will be willing to give it a try. The original game was very entertaining at the time, although I became less and less into Rare platformers as time went on. Perhaps this whole vehicle customization thing will go over well.

Goddamnit I don't care about these new pinootas or whateverthefuck just give me my banjo kazooie dammit.

i've been jonesing so bad I was forced to dig out my N64 and cables from Deep Storage the other day just so I could reply B:K and B:T.

It better have pleasant, peppy, infuriatingly catchy music, too. And random inanimate objects should have oversized cartoon eyes slapped on them and be treated as characters.

You know, I dont get the Rare hate.
Looking around it seems that the hatred is really RARE.
    Hey-o!

For me, there is no Rare hate.

    just Rare disappointment.

is it that hard for the op to link the original?

You know, that was cool and all, but thanks to that ad the whole way through H3 I was expecting the game to end with some kind of epic, massive balls-to-the-wall defense of earth style battle, one that would make up for the sheer unadulterated shit that was 'Cortana'.

    And it never fucking happened.

I preferred the Believe one, but still good work.

Since we don't have a Viva Pinata 2 thread going, this'll have to do until someone (me? but I'm lazy and at work right now..) makes one.

Eurogamer has a nice preview of the game that makes it sound pretty good to me, although indicates that it might still have some of the flaws of the first, which could end up leading to poor sales again (although it's now topped 1 million, which is nice)

Ok, I might have missed something. I've played the hell out of the first VP a few times (my kids won't let me stop playing it...hell I won't let me stop sometimes), but what problems plagued the first one. The only thing I've noticed on my playthroughs are there are times when trying to get certain pinatas to move in, they will come in meet a requirement or two, leave and then the game forgets that the first few requirements are met. The first time I played it happened with Elephanillas, made a new garden, and problems solved. This time I'm having that problem with chipopotimus and fudgehogs, but haven't bothered with the new garden yet because my kids hate when I start a new garden have to take care of all that damn hard soil.

Were there other issues with the game I might have missed?

I guess one of the main problems with the first was that it didn't really seem to have a group it could easily appeal to. It clearly has the appearance and style of a game for kids, but was far too complex for anyone from that market to pick up and easily get in to. For adults, the cutesy, child-friendly style could easily turn people away.

Eurogamer said how, in the original, they felt it took too long to get into anything fun, and that may still be a factor here. Can't say I noticed that so much myself, but if it's an issue with others, then that could still be something that holds it back.

Ah, well I can see how that would be a problem to some, but being a parent, my kids enjoyed watching the cutesy graphics (as did the wife). It didn't really strike me as a flaw. I was actually more turned off by the style of game it was supposed to be, at least until I picked it up. Then 4 hours later when I finally put down the controller I realized it was really fun (at least to me).

Now that I have played it a couple of times (and once I clear the garden of sours and ruffians) I let my 4 year old run amok to her hearts content in the garden. Hell, the other day I left the room for 10 minutes and come back to find out she had figured out what she needed to do to get an elephanilla into the garden and was well on her way to getting one. The only problems she has with the game is the pre-romance dance mini games.

Either way, I feel I am raising my kids the right way. Getting them into gaming, but keeping them active outside that. My dork lineage will be continued.
