He's one of the few people I would actually classify as a "musical genius."

Weird Al Yankovitch blew his brains out in the late 80s when people stopped buying his records.

Man, I love the Fat video so much. It totally brings me back to watching that ol' 80's VHS of all his music videos.

like i'd never put them on my mp3 player to listen to along with other songs

but as performance art it's fantastic and entertaining.

About a year ago I was driving across the state so I grabbed a couple Weird Al records that I had from like a decade ago. Albums like Greatest Hits vol II, Bad Hair Day, Food Album, Running With Scissors and Dare to the Stupid.

I was driving over White Pass with my arm out the window bumping to Amish Paradise, rapping along to every word, when suddenly it hit me. Ten years and I still knew every Goddamn word off those albums.

He actually came to the town I grew up in, Kellogg, Idaho. The ski resort does some summer concerts, but there is nothing going on otherwise. The show was so good. He puts on a great performance. Especially "Like a Surgeon" where he's rolling around and then gets up and sings with one of his legs behind his head. I need to go see him again. Have fun at the concert.

fuck, volyu, I'll do you one better

there are a shitload of those songs where I don't know the original half as well as I do the weird al version, and I sing the parody lyrics quietly on top of the real ones whenever I hear them on the radio

    "our love's in jeopardy"

    "I want a new drug"

    yeah

No shit? I do that too. Unfortunately nowadays I don't listen to radio very often so I never get the chance. We used to get Eye of the Tiger on the radio a lot at work.

Which was, and always shall be, Rye or the Kaiser.

In one of his fake "interviews" (I think maybe the Michael Stipe one), him and Michael write a song called "we all have cellphones so come on let's get real".
At the end of the show he busted out a full version of it and everybody waved their cellphones. The wife and I had left ours in the car and we felt lame.
