So I've been living in my apartment since June. This place is pretty new (2-4 years?) and I feel I'm fairly clean I mean I have some mess laying around, but I don't have any food in my room and I do laundry frequently. I've seen two of these fuckers, though within these few months.

It might not mean anything and it could be that they're from another apartment, too. I don't know. Is it something I can fix or something I'm doing? It kinda bugs me to thing that it might be from some unsanitary thing(s) I'm doing.

i don't think they're really attracted by anything. they just come... uh, they aren't that pesky really. kinda like the occasional spider... i would just ignore them. maybe an exterminator can come if they get out of hand, but i've never heard of any exterminators having sprays for them.

So they're not technically pests, then?

I think they pretty much just hang out and look gross. I could be wrong though

They eat cellulose base material, so if your worried aboutn them getting into your books or anything then you may want to consult someone.

When I had an issue with them I traced back to where they were entering (usually a small crack in some plasterwork) and sprayed a barrier spray - I think it was designed with ants in mind.

Haven't seen one in over a year.

They can come up through the drains too, which is why youll usually find them by a sink or a flood drain in the basement. They arent technically pests though, in the way that cockroaches or something are, they just kind of hang around. You can get an exterminator to spray for them but if youre in an apartment complex theyd pretty much have to do the entire building for it to be effective.

Seeing 2 in a few months isnt too bad.

They like damp, as well, so make sure your floor is dry. Spray them if you want, but they're harmless.

Yes, I was of the impression that they were attracted to an excess of stuff like cardboard. Do you have a lot of that lying around?

I like insects in general, I work as a web designer for my university's entomology department. But silverfish, for some reason, I absolutely can't stand. They are the only insects I crush on sight. I'll capture wasps and take them outside, I've got this beetle in my living room that just sorta hangs out, but man, if I see a silverfish, it's gone. Maybe it's because they remind me of earwigs and I'm paranoid about my ears (even though earwigs going in your ear is an urban myth).

I hate them as well, but I think it's some sort of childhood fear of them getting under my skin.
I know they don't do it, but the thought of it freaks me the fuck out, so I can't go near 'em. We've got a it of an infestation in our downstairs toilet, so I avoid wherever possible. They don't seem to cause any damage in the like, 6 years they've been in there...
