We had a fair amount of success at Rock Band in the Console Freeplay room and we needed to burn off some frustration after the Halo tournament - X, Fyre and Nambkab had real frustration, I had fake frustration because I didn't play but I watched helplessly while they died.

But, the Rock Band 2 stage was full, but X said, "Hey lets check out Guitar Hero" and we were like, "K."

The other guys weren't sure - the guitar has these extra sensors below the fret buttons for some reason. Fyre tried explaining it to us, but then the Booth People tried explaining things to us and I just wasn't following because they were contradicting what Fyre said and making it more complicated sounding.

The drum set up was very odd - there are three pads and two cymbals to hit now, in addition to the kick pedal.

Maybe I just suck, but the set up was very confusing. When Badman gets back and can give a much more elaborate run down on the drums, he'll probably say, "Snack just sucks."

This is shortly after failing on medium, where they said, "You should turn down the difficulty." Oh, by the way, if any one member of your band fails, the entire band fails. Yeah. No "saving the rest of the band" like in Rock Band.

Quote myself, "YOUR BULLSHIT DRUMS CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES."

Then I had lunch and while eating, the other Bees abandoned me to my shame after I reclaimed my camera from Nambkab who was a good sport for taking pictures for me and I should buy him beer to say thank you.

But hey, Rock Band 2 is just a couple weeks away.

I felt sorry for the Guitar Hero booth, actually. They've got what's by any accounts a respectable demo version of their game up and running for people to test, but Harmonix had the ENTIRE Rock Band 2 as well as every piece of DLC available to play across the hall along with a much better stage set up - give me a few minutes and I'll have pictures of us playing on that in here in a second.

part of the problem with the GHIV booth was
-the way they set up the TVs encouraged you to look down. Like, way down.
-seriously, No Fail mode was a godsend for the RB booth, because people could get through a song and move off the stage, and everyone got to hear a song once.
- they kept trying to get people to play Van Halen and kept wondering why people were failing out.
- Neversoft woman is a bit too much into her singing.

edit: i just realized how well my shirt camoflages against their booth background.

I just love that Guitar Hero is sticking with the little controllers even though they look like hardcore ukuleles compared to the larger and vastly superior Rock Band controllers.

By the way, you can tap the 'purple rope' parts with the fret buttons. even if you miss one. they basically replaced chord wank with fretting/scaling wank.

there is absolutely no reason to use the slide buttons.

We still had to look down, though, because we weren't sure what the fuck we wanted to play, as long as it was new. Then, frustration set in early because we made her pick - but she was all "I dunno, what do YOU GUYS want to play?" Then we were all "PICK A SONG YOU KNOW I MEAN GODDAMN."

X didn't have "Rio" by Duran Duran and after playing it, he may not want to get it. Badman was on drums, and I had only played it once before PAX because she wanted it more than I did.

If I recall, Badman was playing Medium Drums, while X and I were on Expert Bass/Guitar respectively.

I think the Bass kicked his ass pretty hard though.

I almost 'failed' once or twice, but got into a rhythm at the end. I play the guitar like a real bass, and upstrumming that way is a bitch.
