After all, there aren't any melee resistant classes (outside maybe some of the bosses...and even then fierces work), so why would there be range-resistant classes for the one class that relies almost exclusively on range?

I think the melee resistant classes are the millions of explosive, poison, and lightning mobs that go boom when you kill them and then you die.

Well if you're a middle tree Defender, the only one you really have to fear is the explosive type as all the others can be dealt with via the status reflect battlecry. I guess we all have to stick with fierces when dealing with those polarity bastards. :?

In a related note: the Staff Fierce attack + range and damage bonuses = the anti-polarity setup of choice, especially if you're kiting.

Hey, sorry I've been offline for most of the week. I'm in the process of moving and am trying to not get distracted while there is moving crap to be done :P But trust me, once its over and done this weekend, I am so back to my Bio-Engineer!

Also, I would like to thank SK for making the achievements in this game actually things that you would do in the course of playing the damn thing!

I've been playing commando in CO-OP and its a lot easier than solo, but ranged immune enemies are a pain in the ass. Even ruiners are kind of meh thanks to the -40% melee damage reduction.

On the other hand, I have a laser cannon, so its all good.

The first person (that I've heard of) to beat the game was a Commando who had 0 deaths :P Was posted on TH.net with end game stats but since they switched forums I can't find the post.

As far as status effect enemies go: I'm a middle path Defender and I barely use it reflect debuffs battlecry. All it takes is recognizing it's a polarity and while you're sliding (or prior to sliding) hit him with a juggle then roll away from it. That's it.

The only time the reflect really comes in handy is versus multiple trolls (either ice beamers, ice mallets, or slow trolls) and versus the ghosts in World 4 who have the life drain. It's a quick 100% heal + godmode with the reflect debuff on :)

BTW, I completed one level 3 charm that creates an acid pool. Let me just say, UNDERRATED. The proc isn't all that common (I'm lucky for it to proc once a battle, usually it's every other). What it does is create a rather large pool right underneath you. Enemies that touch it seem to take ~2 - 3000 damage everytime it pulses (rough guess, it was 1-shotting the "foddor" undead). It lasts about 30 seconds if *nothing* touches it... but here's the trick: Stand behind the pool. Guys that touch it (and die) explode into another pool. I've literally proc'ed an acid pool and stood behind it while the pool got carried from one end of the screen to the other killing everything in it's path. It even kills those really beefy zombies pretty fast. I haven't managed to proc it on a boss/troll yet, but the flying fat guys seem to completely avoid it (Ghosts might too).

Oh, and the charm adds +1 to ALL my skills. Both my Defender tree and my Human tree. Working on another charm that heals me when I get hit but I still need 8000 undead kills :( That's like 5 more complete run throughs of act 4... oi.

    Yeah.

Some of these people act like cheesy dialogue isn't in most games. I think Mass Effect and BioShock are pretty much the only ones that didnt' make me feel a bit embarrassed by the dialogue.

Seriously. I don't play RPGs around my non-gamer friends because I'm generally embarrassed by the quality of the story and the dialogue. They wouldn't understand. This is a genre several steps removed from translations by people who don't actually speak English. What they're seeing here is progress. Plus it's hard to be self-righteous about crappy movies when others see the content of my hobby.

I've played through a few levels with my 50 Berserker and am now getting quite frustrated. I haven't found any epics, or really anything of value for level 50 - and given how much the difficulty ramps up around the last 5 levels, that means I'm getting absolutely destroyed. I can't even no-death the first level at this point. I was hoping to get an epic set with him, but I don't think I'll be able to put in the effort - I'll probably try out another class tonight. On the good side, I can now set it to autosalvage all but orange/red items, so I don't have endless loot to sort through at the end of a run.

I have mine set at blue right now, if only because I want to check some purples as they come in. I think 50 enemies you just have to watch some of the previous really nasty attacks (like a red laser aided missle barrage) because they went from annoying to fatal.

well beserkers are *horribly* squishy. There damage is also a bit overrated when you consider Champions have that auto-crit battlecry (Ie, double damage for the duration). That shit is insane.

I gotta say though, DoT effects are just fucking ridiculous. A fire troll managed to DoT my Defender (and my Champion friend) and that DoT alone killed us both. It was ticking for something like 300+ damage. A single application of poison will also kill my Defender if I don't roll constantly or find health.

And I'm the lucky class with the highest HP and reflective status effects. I can't imagine playing this game with lower health/no status immunity (Bio/Def only -_-).

Oh yeah, it's also pretty silly how world 2 is so much harder than world 4... co-op or otherwise. World 2 has just LAYERS of polarities in it, it's insane.

From what Dennis had stated earlier, at level 50, the enemies become more aggressive / shoot more frequently / come in heartier (polarity) varieties. It's mostly a balancing measure, because once you hit the max level, the game focuses more on the epic loot and tactics than level stats.

So you did get better at the game? I remember you worrying you wouldn't.

Yeah I think so - once I started playing a champion and bioengineer, I learned a little more about melee, rolling and handling different types of enemies. Also, I learned the importance of really focusing on applying just the right kind of runic enchantments on your stuff and being just generally anal about upgrading gear. To be honest, it's kind of a pain in the ass, but it strikes me as basically required if you don't want to be frustrated while playing the game.

I will say that the path to improvement in the game is not obvious. I mean - I knew I sucked at, say, Ninja Gaiden 2, but I also basically understood why and what I'd need to practice in order to get better. I really feel like I've only improved at 2H because of reading the forums and Dyack's posts.

I'll probably give Commando another shot once I get done with my Champ run. We'll see if any of what I've learned carries over.
