"Essential" Palm Applications

Tw4winTw4win Registered User regular
I just got a free Palm Centro with my new cell phone plan. While it's not as flashy as an iPod or a Blackberry it seems to be a solid phone and so far I'm liking it. Although, I may switch to a Windows Mobile based device in a couple of months. In the meantime, I'll be using the Centro so I'd like to hear what people think are "essential" applications for the Palm OS.

If you have an IR port, a universal remote program is always handy.

Edit: Checked, there isn't. I guess that's more of a PDA thing. You don't see as much of it anyway with bluetooth nowadays.

Browser: Opera mini - although you need the Java runtime for palm -> it might be that it isn't distributed anymore because of licensing issues

Except for Blazer (already installed), there nothing much better yet. Some people modified the Netfront browser of the Sony Clie, to run on regular Palm, but its really troublesome to install. (The PSP browser is based on Netfront, BTW)

Displaying "office documents": Docs to Go - this should be preinstalled on your Palm already

Video: The core media player of course (TCMP). - this program has gone commercial - free version is still available. It plays nearly every format under the sun, without converting.

Filez is a great freeware app for displaying the content of your SD-card/memory

If you can find it - SMB Mate lets you connect to smb shares on your network (if you have wireless lan or a connection over bluetooth)

MoePaint is a great drawing app for the Palm. It even supports layers.

PDFViewer is a Freeware application for displaying pdf files on your PAlm. BTW search for Metaview in goggle -> this guys also created grat ports of most ID egoshooter. He also programmed lots of nifty application -> unfortunately he also provides emulators, this is the reason I don't link directly.
