What to do with a new cat outside

This is sort of a strange problem; could be worse, but still curious...

My wife and I have had two cats for the last year and a half. Last Saturday we got a new cat, and the same night a cat started showing up outside. It's not a huge deal, but the cat sometimes meows really loud (sometimes at 6 in the morning).

Yesterday I went outside to take a look at him, and I got the address and phone number off of his tag. I left a message with the phone number from his tag, basically saying that I just wanted to make sure that they hadn't lost their cat.

Today, he showed up outside with no tag. Anyway, I'm just wondering what you would do in this situation. Call the owner again, call a shelter, adopt him...

Thanks.

Well, if he was wearing a breakaway collar, he might have just gotten out of it. Personally, I'd just offer food for the cat, some people like to let their cats out, we have a neighbor that does.

Does the owner live nearby? Might try calling them again just to make sure that he's supposed to be an outside cat. :)

Yeah, I'll think I'll give the owner another call. We've been leaving some water and a little food, I just hope that it doesn't send him the signal to keep coming back every night :)

It will. If you start feeding it the cat will not stop coming back.

I would ask them to give you a call back to confirm that the cat should be outside. If they don't reply, I would call a shelter if the cat is still wandering around after a couple of days.
