I apologize if this has already been discussed. I was unable to easily find any threads on the topic. Anyway, I'm just now getting around to attempting the Brass Balls achievement (finish the game on hard without dying/using a Vita-Chamber). I had read on online in a few places that turning off the Vita-Chambers in the game makes getting this achievement a little less aggravating. Unfortunately for me, I seem to be suffering from the glitch that prevents this option from appearing. Heading back online, I found that the glitch also prevents you from reloading if you die because it corrupts the save. Does this mean I can't get the achievement or do I just have to be really, really careful not to die?

If you are playing on 360 there was DLC that enabled this option.
Yeah...that was one of the pages I read when I was looking for information. All the people said they just reloaded when they died and they still didn't get the achievement due to some glitch. I'm curious if you can get the achievement if you never die which I think I can manage if I play carefully enough.

Go to the system blade and then memory. Press Y on either the HDD or a MU and then press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. Once you do this a blade will pop up saying: This will perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices. Do you want to continue? Select yes.
MS have a disclaimer on this saying that you should only use it when instructed by one of their advisors blah blah blah. I have used it a couple of times for various things with no problems and i have never heard of it going wrong for anyone.
Keep in mind that this deletes everything stored in the cache and in MS' infinate wisdom software / game updates are stored there so you will have to redownload those when you next launch games you play
That sucks. I guess I was lucky to not have this glitch, but I never even tried to turn off the Vita-chambers.
I had played this on PC before 360. While I preferred it on PC, it was cool playing it on the 360 and getting all 1100 achievement points in one run. Took a little bit of planning, but it was fun. I thought it was going to be harder than it was on hard difficulty, but only the beginning of the game was really a challenge.
Towards the end I just decked myself out in wrench tonics and went to town. And trap bolts made pretty much any Big Daddy trivial.
Does your game recognize the downloaded tonics? It's almost like it loses the "attachment" to the DLC, and that's why the achievement doesn't work either.
I'm not sure about the new tonics. When does the first new one show up? I'm still working my way towards Dr. Steinman for the second time today. The first Big Daddy you get a chance to fight managed to take me out. I think if I can get past him I'll be okay. I get that I can't reload before I die to cancel that death out but does anyone know if I can get the achievement if I beat the game without dying at all? A tall order but I think I can manage it once I start getting better gear.

Supposedly, the glitch prevents that from working. Something about it corrupting the save. I found lots of instances where people did that and still didn't get the achievement. I'm wondering if it didn't work for them 'cause of the glitch recognizing that they died at some point during the game, regardless of loading a previous save, or that it's impossible to get the achievement while the Vita-Chamber option isn't present.

Yeah, I would do this and also clear the cache and redownload the patch.
You may not want to start over, but that's better than having to play the whole game without powering down or dying, in my opinion.

Sounds like a plan but how do I clear the cache?
