[WoW] Shammy chat!

edited July 2008 in MMO Extravaganza
Okay, so I decided us Shaman needed a chat to talk about anything from the new shit that's gonna be for us with this expansion and the new shit that's gonna be annoying. Alliance Shaman, have you ever 1vs1 a Shaman? It's a boring grounding totem game. We could talk about builds; PvP, PvE, and why lots of guilds only accept heal specced Shaman. I personally have a 60 Tauren Shaman Ele spec with like 12 points in heal. I am one of our guilds more experienced shaman and have full tier 1. So any raiding questions regarding MC and Ony I can discuss. The Ele build with some heal still works for raiding purposes, we can still throw the right totems and heal like mad without using too much mana. Since I'm ele spec anyway I pour points into intell, so I have a shitload of mana. I'm also an Alchemist so I make plenty of mana pots. 8)
Hit me up! The Shaman thread starts.

Anyway... seriously what kind of endgame do full out enh. shammies have.. I'm ele all da' way wit some heal for some cheap healing. What kind of new things are coming our way with the expansion. My situation doesn't allow me to view the WoW website because i'm out here in the desert at the moment. I read the thread about the expansion, it just hasn't cured my thirst cuz a lot of the links are blocked and i'm curious about our shammies new gear, specs, skillz, endgame, etc.

My friend is Enh. in a big, rather successful raiding guild. He heals. Sometimes they let him do damage just for laughs.

Wow. Ok. I respect forum policy. It just did not sound "nice", so I vented. Ok, if you decide not to read the bold because you are a stickler. Then I basically stated that I wanted to make a shaman thread, since someone requested one to be made. I want to chat about the new upcoming changes, skills, equipment for shamans. Feel free to post anything else from pvp, raids, to complaints. Does this work forum manager people? This is the only forum place that works where I'm located. How's the format?

I like the direction they are going-- offensive hybrid. I think it's appropriate. Broad strokes and all.

The way they are taking shaman in BC reminds me a lot of shadowknights in EQ1. In that they were strongly offensive hybrids. Which made them a lot of fun, but not highly sought after on raids unfortuanatly. Which is what I see will happen to shaman. They'll be a "one or two, but more is overkill class" Especially in a 25man cap. But that's ok, I guess. They'll just need to make sure that they balance raid encounters for shaman.

I'd realy like to see more instant weapon skills for shaman now that they are being taken that route. Perhaps tying weaker versions of shocks to weapons.

Like an instant attack, that does weapon damage, plus 100 fire damage and small dot. Same cooldown and shared cooldown as shocks I guess to balance. That I think would bring a little more to the class, with out overpowering it.

This will be my level 70 build, as far as I can tell this will be the best shaman build for me, going completely on the idea of "fuck everyone else, this looks fun."

    CLICK

I also am looking forward to the pet totems. The fire elemental totem and earth elemental totem look very promising for maximizing fun.

I'm guessing they'll have a short leash though, like maybe 10 to 20 yards, so you can't just set it and forget it. (anyone need a baked turkey??)

Except shadowknights couldn't contribute anything to a raid where as no matter what spec a shaman is he still has a lot of things to offer.

25 raid slots means 2 of each class and 7 filler of your choice.

Is it just me, or is Totem of Wrath sorta weak? Moonkin aura that you can't carry with you, bleh.

The rest of the Ele tree is pretty nice, though. Enh/ele looks like quite a lot of fun.

They could do a few things (FD pull (not as well as monks but doable) off tank. And flash tank (generate insane agro when a lag spike hits and the MT goes down, until the 2nd warrior in the tank line could step up). And they did do some DPS, it was actually better the lower end your guild was.

I wasnt in a huge raid guild, but we raided, and our SK's were just as welcome as any class for DPS, but higher progression guilds fucking hated them for everything other than picking up the Sk loot that dropped, which they fucking hated :p

At least that's the way my friends guild was.

I also quit around the relase of Gates of Discord expansion I think. They were great for tanking LDON instances though. A retarded Sk could tank those, where as it took a fairly competent warrior to tank em, especially with me being main puller and healer on my shaman :):):)

I sometimes miss EQ, but then I don't at the same time.

    Back to WOW:
Yeah I'm not too thrilled with the elemental tree. And don't give to licks of a dead rats cunt about any of the 41point talents. But I think shaman will be shaping up into a very fun class to play.

If both of your weapons are able to be equipped in the main hand slot, doesn't that mean you'll be able to put shammy buffs on each of them? Windfury main + Rockbiter off? Yes please

They'll probably change it to drop the buff when you unequip. but if that was the case I'd just do dual windfurry.

this is what Im thinking of for my shaman once he hits 70 (this is what I have now).

I like being an elemental shaman, so what do you guys think of this build? I lliked Nature's Swiftness, but I dont really use it much, I tend to save it for a macro I found that targets me casts NS and the highest rank of healing wave, then targets my previous target. It's handy, I just dont use it much, but I can see lots of use with that totem of wrath.

    So tips? Suggestions?

I could see Enh being a great spec for melee dps groups. Windflurry + AP talent looks like a pretty solid combo. I'm alliance though, so all the shaman stuff is shiny and new.

What's the totem of wrath...? I'm Ele/Heal spec 38/12? Forgive me for i haven't played for 6 months due to a deployment. I didn't put enough points into the heal spec for Natures Swiftness, but sometimes wish I poured some skills in it. Where are you putting your 10 points? This really isn't a good question for me to answer since I don't have the updated information. I'm all for ele damage while still being usefull for healing and totems in the guild. Depends on what style of play you want and what those new totems, specs, and talents are.

Totem of wrath is the 41pt elemental talent. Its a totem that gives all spells +3% crit chance of any party member in its range, I have 20 points in resto so I could get the +5% crit chance of tidal mastery, but the rest of the point went into elemental.

Sounds like your more apt for healing.. Depending on how you want to play your char. If you want to be a healing machine i'd change your spec to almost all heal with little ele. If you want to pvp and do damage while still healing put the rest of your spec in ele. Guess it's really up to you! Thanks for the info regarding the totem though. :D

The way I've been playing my shaman (and this could be a total waste of my class's strengths) is to basically DPS in my own ways, laying totems down when I can and that sort of thing, but when the going gets tough I hang back and throw heals arround. I like this alot more, its more fun than a resto shaman (which I had before the shaman talent revamp) and I havent gotten any complaints from people I've grouped with. I just make sure people know Im a backup healer and not geared for main healing and most people are fine with it.

So basically I like to raid so I dont want to be a DPS machine and kill myself with aggro, but I also dont like being a heal-bot the whole raid.

Hmm... sounds alittle defensive, oh well, sorry bout that.

Hmm.. play it how you want brotha. If we are talkin about DPS and healing. I personally have done tons of mc runs where i can micro manage healing and throwing some chain light and shocks specially on fire ele's and rocks. I heal more on the giant parts and bosses. You have to learn how to micro manage. But as an Ele spec with just a little heal, I've been known to Chain light for some awesome amount of damage. One reason is because i stack so much intell and the ele tree is all about the crits and damage. You seem much more versital and maybe longer lasting via healing with your spec. and i'm sure a tank would greatly appreciate an instant cast high rank full heal when he's on his last leg!

Healing weapons tend to suck for damage because, damn it, we don't need to create brand new loot fights and nobody focuses their damage on melees with a fancy healing staff or dagger.
