So today I was told to clean out one of my drawers, cos it needed repairing, and what did I find but my collection of demo discs from the now-defunct UK Official Playstation Magazine. A collection that ranged from the release of Metal Gear Solid to somewhere about mid 2002.
So for nostalgia's sake I had a look at them. And I realised just how many good games sorta just...disappeared. I mean Colony Wars is the one that everybody cites, but I'm seeing game names that I'd not heard in years. Stuff like C-12, which was apparently quite good. And the forgotten racers like Rollcage and it's spiritual successor Firebugs. Crash Team Racing is the only PS1 kart racer that most people remember, but what about Speed Freaks, or the amazingly-actually-very-good Muppets Racing? Remember Cool Boarders? Sheep Dog 'n' Wolf?
All lost to the depths of time.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm getting at here...but let's all talk about those old PS1 games nobody remembers, maybe?
I have the PC version of Rollcage. It's a fun game. The only other PS1 game that I own which I don't feel gets enough love is Ape Escape, but you could hardly call it 'forgotten'.
I got a pile of demo disks that I am considering whether I should keep or throw away, reading this I may look atleast look through them, if nothing else then nostalgia. I think I have demos of everything you mentioned aswell , had a subscription to a magazine, I forget the name of, up until the Playstation 2 was released.
Ape Escape is one of my all-time favourites. Must have completed it three times.
That one doesn't count since the franchise is still alive and getting sequels today.
Well Food said that so I know. I'm just sayin how much I like it.

C-12:Final Resistance was a pile of shit, god awful game.
I fucking loved Rollcage though, I think I may have those demos lying around somewhere, going to have to go look for them.
Now and forever. Easily my favorite RE-style game. The sequel is amazing too, but I prefer the first.
And no matter how many quality Tomb Raider games they put out to sate my thirst as a Tomb Raider fanboy, I will never, ever forgive them for pulling the plug on Fear Effect: Inferno.
The best kart racer ever made is Chocobo Racing. It is better than Mario Kart.
The weapon system is so cool. Imagine if, in Mario Kart, you could save that crappy green shell and pick up a second green shell to upgrade it to red. That's essentially what it was. Ice left a little slick spot on the ground, Ice 2 left several slick spots, and ice 3 made every racer slide around and spin out. You could alternatively save up three different weapons and use them all whenever you wanted. Additionally, every weapon was dragged behind the kart and you could get up behind your opponent to steal his stuff. And every racer had their own unique ability like a speed boost or shield.
The maps were well-designed too. My favorite mechanics of any racer.
@Sporky So it was like Diddy Kong Racing, but on the PS1?
I dunno. Did DK Racing have all the aforementioned features?
It definitely had the grab one rocket for dumb fire, grab 2 for homing thing. And I'm pretty sure I would steal my brother's power-ups when we played it.

Rollcage (to be precise the first track from Paradise) is the greatest racing game ever. In the flat I shared at University we played that one track to death, beyond and into the afterlife. The level of precision we had on that track was uncanny. I'm fairly certain one of my flatmates could play it blind-fold.
Tail Concerto (made by Nippon Ichi, the same people who made Disgaea), I first played it as an import on one of the PlayStation Underground demo disks, I later found out that it did actually come out state side and bought it. It was fantastic and I still play it to this day.
Trap Gunner. Personally, I've never met anyone who's even aware of this game's existence. :?
But it's so awesome. My brother and I would spend hours constructing the most elaborate death-traps for each other, only for one of us to get bored and shoot the other in the back.
what was that fantastic game called that was in the same vain as Desert/Jungle/Urban strike, but you were the LAPD in the future, with a police mech. That could also transform into a fast hovercraft type thing?

I loved that game.
G-Police, I believe. There were a couple of them.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Parasite Eve.
I love that game. And it's pretty much the only one I ever lost. Boo.
Alundra's great too, though I never got further than the lizard king boss or whatever.
Well Food said that so I know. I'm just sayin how much I like it.

As do I. I only played the demo. But the demo lasted me longer than most full games did.
I never did finish that demo.
Also, I'm probably one of the few people around that thinks Mega Man Legends was such an amazing game that they need to bring back the series.
I still bust out my copy of Vib Ribbon every time I get a new album. It's so awesome.
@gamefacts - Totally and utterly true gaming facts on the regular!
My ultimate bargain find was finding The Misadventures of Tron Bonne at a wholesale outlet (BJ's) about two years ago for $14.99.
Also, Poy Poy was a surprisingly fun party game.
I dunno. Did DK Racing have all the aforementioned features?
Agreed, that game has some awesome memories. Go figure it was one of something like 4 PS1 games that weren't compatible with the PS2...
Think about how many of these could be made available to a new audience at less than $10 a pop.

I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.
Plus it would be a great thing for people like me who never got to play Alundra.
God, I loved this game.
But it's so awesome. My brother and I would spend hours constructing the most elaborate death-traps for each other, only for one of us to get bored and shoot the other in the back.
Alundra is the the only PSX game that is missing from my collection. I rented it a bunch of times but was never able to find it in a store to buy.
I'm still looking.
I loved that game.
G-Police, I believe. There were a couple of them.
Actually, Vib Ribbon did have a sequel, called Vib Ripple. Instead of music, you made levels using pictures. I am not sure if it was any good, though.
