Guitars and other things that make noise
Posts
I do really like it, I don't think I could have done better for the price
and I know they sell guitars with soapbars but at the time I wanted something different and didn't want to limit myself to either buying P-90s or having to make modifications to fit another style pickup on it
94's aren't too bright, and I like their tone, but the air nortons might not be a bad choice
coooooort. one of my first guitars was a cort. I sold it to fallout, actually.
but yeah I finally put a melody to a diddly little guitar part I've been playing with for a couple days. I'm going to work on some lyrics tomorrow and hopefully actually get something done oh god I am so lazy.
the only thing stopping my g-penis engulfing western europe is that the 2008 standard gibson announced looks rad. loads of handy upgrades that i've been thinking of getting. i crave one
just cause
STEAM!
1972 gibson eb-3 (just restrung it, it sounds beauuuutiful now)
fender stratocaster
flea ukulele
concertina
I'm not very good at any of them
it makes a lot of noise
Because then you don't have to be good, as long as you're loud as fuck.
could i ask why? because man, the new les paul standards are crazy hot shit.
if it's anything to do with a misplaced romanticisation of older instruments then boy i will go so far upside your head people'll want to climb it and plant flags
good idea
Do it.
I have a Roland E-70, which has a standard MIDI sound set and crappy keys, and I just bought a new master keyboard, a CME UF-80.
I'm using this baby with Reason, and it's a pretty sweet setup. 88 fully weighted keys, it plays like a real piano.
I still need to figure out how to get a whammy bar on my banjo.
EDIT: If someone can make a ukulele all metals and such I will be awed.
Ive' seen some seriously shitty workmanship on some expensive Gibsons for the past couple of years--but ill' admit I haven't tried the 08's yet

my friend introduced me to a lot of new folksy stuff (which she is even more rabidly into than I am) and this dude sam amidon is the best. well, besides bon iver but I already knew about bon iver.
The japanese banjo is indeed awesome:
Unfortunately, I think the bridge pickup is going to shit and gives some awful feedback on the G, B and e strings, so I'm probably going to replace those.
Though I really want a Telecaster or a Semi-hollow, possibly a Gretsch.

I'm probably going to get a completely different set of pickups for a different, warmer tone, but failed to indicate that intention, via my retardation.

pfft
Man, just find a teacher.
It will be worth it. Trust.
gibson have just completely changed hands, so there'll be a lot less of that going around. and anyway, gibson have always had fuck all quality control: les pauls from '52 to 2008 with the same shoddy workmanship. which is why, especially when buying a gibson, following the golden rule of buying guitars: don't buy a guitar you haven't played.
there's never been a period where gibson haven't produced flawless instruments. the only thing that varies is the frequency with which you'll find one.
He also bought a chain saw, that was a bit more believable.
or you have to be a patient jerk
i order guitars online, and if i get a shoddy one i get ahold of the company i ordered it from and go 'this guitar suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks, send a new one'
most places will even pay for you to ship it back
oh boy, i am such a jerk to amazon
"your book arrived with a dent in it exactly 0.5mm in diameter. this is unacceptable for a man of my importance. replace it, wrapped in gold and cocaine."
Also I saw Joe Satriani last night and it was pretty good. Not the best concert I've been to but pretty cool.
Radiohead is doing it better with their 99-cents-per-stem system for In Rainbows remixes
for an album they initially released for free, they sure are making a lot of money off of it
