The gift of sound and vision

I was in a Bang & Olufsen store yesterday because I was in the market for new headphones. This store was such hot shit you actually had to ring the bell before they'd even let you inside.

I did not buy headphones because they were like £90 holy god in heaven. But so many pretty speakers, all entire sound systems carved out of a single piece of sequioa heartwood, landline phones that are so streamlined and germanic they probably come with the home numbers of Kraftwerk preprogrammed in. Also this mobile phone, I don't know how well it works but I wanted to pick it up and start licking it, but B&O had thought ahead and put it under a glass case. Damn them.

On the way out I caught a glimpse of the salesman's phone lying on his desk: a Mk. 1 N-gage. I shit you not.

Anyway, I ended up buying some sony headphones elsewhere for £35. They sound excellent and unlike the came-with-the-iPod ones they don't fall out of my irregular ear canals every time I tilt my head.

I guess this thread would be the place to talk about, not music per se, but how you listen to it.

I guess I will have those until I find something else with an integrated microphone that works with the IPhone ... suggestions, anyone?

Unless you go for the really high end stuff, B&O is usually pretty standard technology underneath the glossy veneer. I know they used exactly the same stuff as Phillips for a lot of their lines.

I randomly bought Sennheiser MX 51 earbuds and they are shitawesome. Really deep bass and good sound out of these tiny fuckers, but I lost one of the sponge thingies that covers the plastic and now I can only listen to mono music.

I also have Sennheiser HD 550, they are really good. Not specifically for music but good headphones for generic sound makin'

I've only had the 212s from Sennheiser, but they are so good

If they go out I'm getting another pair of Sennheisers, I've already decided.

I don't know about the ones linked, but I've used Skullcandy's in-ear headphones and they're amazing. I borrowed some to take on a plane, and the passive noise cancellation was superb.

I actually have these here HD280 Pro headphones and while the sound quality prolly isn't as good as Tofu's 212s they are supergood at blocking out external noise, and it still sounds Quite Good

picked these up for $20 off of woot a few months back, and i love them. they retail for about $100, so they aren't the best, and not as good as sennheisers, but for $20 they are amazing

    Are the 212's closed?

My 555's wouldn't be very good at work since they're open (everyone else hears what I'm hearing), so I've been looking at the 280 Pro's for a while now

But if the 212's are closed and good enough, I might just go with those

I hate ear bud headphones. They hurt my ears and make it unpleasant to listen to music. Also they get earwax on them, and that's gross.

the ones that clip behind the ear start to hurt the outside of my ear on extended listening sessions, it sucks

but I like full sized headphones to just about anything else, partially because they block out other sound better, which was essential in my old job so that I could avoid talking to the crazy lady that sat next to me

Have you tried the 280s? I can't find anything directly comparing the two

    212: $60, closed, supra-aural, good sound

280: $90-100, closed, circumaural, good sound

Basically for sound quality (especially bass response) 212 > 280

But for pretending the outside world doesn't fucking exist (and vice-versa) 280 > 212

So if your primary concern is your coworkers makin frowny faces at the kid listenin to his Green Metal or whatever the fuck it is, get the 280s
