A NeoGAF member who hobbies as ESRB archive scavenger has stumbled upon an update for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 that lists the game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game, a frenetic 3-on-3 arcade bralwer from 2000 (and probably one of the main reasons you keep a Sega Dreamcast around, assuming you didn't pick up the PS2 or Xbox One version), seems like a perfect fit for Xbox Live Arcade or PS Network. We've reached out to Capcom for more information.
MVC2 is by far one of best fighters of all time and it's Pretty exciting to see it hitting modern consoles. Maybe this means Marvel learned their lesson about EA and maybe a test to see if there is still interest in an MVC3
This would be fantastic. This is the main game I hook my DC back up for occasionally. Getting it to play online would probably be the greatest thing ever.
Even though it's the most unbalanced fighting game, it's still a lot of fun. Were there any difference between the Arcade and Dreamcast version other than game modes?
As long as I only play with me friends and some PAers, I'll be happy to grab this. I'm not really a big fan of MvC2, but it can be fun just to screw around with buddies with a tiny robot, a huge guy wearing a giant stir fry pan, and a monkey/man/girl/thing team. Or a walking Cactus. The moment it gets competitive I'm outta there though. Competitive MvC2 pisses me off, but people in the SFIV thread have already heard that rant :P .

Anakris (or whatever his name is) had a glitch you could only do in the arcade version (which made him really good), along with some other small details I can't think of. I don't really play the game, I just kind of dabble. I believe one version is faster, but I can't remember which one.

Haha, my buddy and I would have epic Servbot v Servbot matchups. This led to trash talk like:
"Man, I am going to stack plates at you so hard."
"Pfft, whatever, I'm cutting pumpkin at you. Bring it."
Awesome. Lets put it this way, if it is listed on the ESRB, it is all-but-confirmed.
Not true.
If so, where are my EarthBound for VC and Suikoden for PSN?
Obviously it is never 100%, but it is a pretty good gauge for what is coming - plenty of games have shown up listed there before being announced. And hey, if MVC2 has in this case apparently shown up on partnernet too...
I mean, I'm not about to rush out and sell my DC version, but this certainly smells all confirmed-ey to me.
I don't think I could sell my DC copy if I wanted it too. I let a buddy borrow it and it kinda got mistreated by his little brother. The disc is scratched up to the point where getting it to load is no longer an absolute and the music will cut out whenever is feels like it (not that that is necessarily a bad thing...).
On a related note, that scratch remover crap from GameStop doesn't do shit.
My MvC2 story is an awesome one. In college I was all about the Dreamcast, and everyone would come over to play it. I'd let people borrow shit and all that.
Well, when I left college, I was missing a ton of random stuff. Cases, games, ect. I remember opening the MvC2 case and inside it was ChuChu Rocket. I opened the ChuChu Rocket case - nothing. So I looked and looked and found nothing. Stupidly and angrily, I threw out the MvC2 case and returned home.
LITERALLY - 2 YEARS - later I needed a blank CD. I was going through all these spindels disc by disc because I was so unorganized, that I hoped somewhere on a spindle of burned stuff, there was a blank disc still left. On the biggest spindle, near the bottom - MvC2.
I could NEVER sell that copy.

And this thread is as good a reason as any to restate my mission to collect the entire cast of MvC2 in action figure form. To scale. Here's a ridiculously out of date picture of what I've got so far:
I've got 34 out of the 55. Every day I'm a little bit closer. I think there will come a time when they only way to finish it will be to copy the work of this awesome guy.

With Rez, SoulCal1 and now this, the only reason I have to keep a DC is Crazy Taxi, and maybe Sonic Adventure.

I'd give one of my extra penii for a version for PSN that I could play on my PS3 and then load onto my PSP and take with me. Failing that I'd happily buy two copies, one for consoles one for my PSP if they released it for each platforms. Hell I still have it on DC.
That doesn't say shit about an XBLA or PSN release, just lists those two platforms.
Pretty much this. I imagine that the ESRB has to rate things not only for the system the game originates on, but any system that allows it through backwards compatibility.
It would be great to have a digital copy (or even an online-ready version), but my understanding was that the series was tangled up in legal issues that prevented them from even reprinting the game whatsoever.

But an ESRB listing isn't confirmation. They rated Earthbound for the virtual console, and, well, you know how that turned out...
HAHA.
Fixed.
Still, I think MvC2 sucks ass. MASH HARDER.
One of my favourite Dreamcast games. I'll need a decent arcade stick though.
Wait, is that some sort of 360 test site?
Well, assuming that's not a photoshop, there goes ten bucks.
I'm half tempted to buy it again for PSN just to be able to play it online, even though I have a perfectly functional PS2 copy.
Hope they add online play.

it is like bizzarro xbox live used by developers to beta test their xbla games and dlc

Good times.
WHY CANT I HIT YOU?

We probably won't see this until late next year.

I PLAY.
edit for Top of Page
Can Capcom even release it, do they have the rights?
Somebody mentioned back how they'd have the rights to release it unchanged (IE without online)
Perhaps they're getting a vs. pack ready.
This is a problem you want to have. This is a fucking GOLDEN AGE
(Can't get rid of DC Imported Ikaruga)
The question is, do I want to go through with it.

I love this game!
