This year, Capcom took a bold but brilliant move in remaking two of their most popular franchises, in two different graphical styles.
With Bionic Commando Rearmed, the original game got a HD facelift while receiving some modernized performance tweaks and additions. With Megaman 9, Capcom went a few steps backward to recreate the Blue Bomber's 8 bit adventures, from the graphics and music and the unmerciful difficulty.
So in this thread, take two of your favorite games, and choose which one you'd like to see get the BC:R treatment (HD graphics, tweaks) and which you'd like to see go back to its 8 bit to 16 bit roots (MM9).
1.
The HD Treatment:Blaster Master
A friend gave me this choice out of the blue when I asked him this question, but I liked it so much I'm making it my own. Blaster Master would totally rock with a HD 2D remake, with just a few tweaks here and there. I don't remember it being too difficult aside from some of the bosses.

The Retro Treatment:Final Fantasy:
Just to clarify, I'm not asking that one of the original games gets remade for the umpteenth time, but instead I would love an original FF story and setting using the old 16 bit style last seen in FFVI. I know there's still a few original titles that use sprites (FFXII: Revenant Wings), but none of them use the old ATB system. I want an FF game that looks and plays like the first six titles, maybe with a new job or relic-based system, and perhaps some animated enemies too.

I wish EA would resurrect Road Rash, catchy rockin' ethnic tunes and all. I would love to have some next gen high octane motorcycle combat, only with less Lucky Luc. :x Maybe throw in a story to the madness.

road rash... ethnic tunes? more like FUCKING SOUNDGARDEN!

alternate replies: more like FUCKING SWERVEDRIVER!, more like FUCKING PAW!, etc
i would play the shit out of a new Road Rash game though, hell yea. assuming it was better than that last 3D version which is best forgotten about.

And hopefully you won't have to buy each episode individually through DLC either.

Hmm. I'll have to think about that one for a moment.
I'm having a seriously difficult time thinking of a retro game that I truly enjoyed that doesn't already have some sort of modern equivalent.
And my choice for stepping back in time, like most is Sonic. However, we've gotten 3 bitchin' Sonic Advance titles, 2 awesome Sonic Rush titles, and a totally cool Neo Geo Pocket title, so I'm not gonna mention Sonic.
I...I'm at a loss.

Fuck, you know just the entire MECC back library. Amazon Trail, Dinosaur Tycoon, and so on.

Or am I confusing it with another franchise?
Speaking of which I would love to see Final Fight 1,2 and 3 get the Bionic Commando Rearmed treatment. In one big release.
Also where the fuck is the Zero Mission style remake of Metroid 2? That game needs it badly.
I also want a 2D 16 bit Shadow of the Colossus platformer made by the people who made
or
Anyways, that. Done by a good studio, in top down or over the shoulder 3d.
Is...is that a game hack of Final Fight, but with zombies? Or just that one screenshot?
Someone already made a scary game thread this year? I was going to do that next.

that's just what we need
I'm tired of Final Fantasy. All of it.
!!
There was a DuckTales 2? Why the fuck was I unaware?
Also, Chip and Dale.
With modern physics, controls, graphics, AI, and standards for voice acting.
As for the other way around, I want to see a good 2D Sonic game. Rush didn't work out too well, but that doesn't mean they should stop trying. They'll get it right one day; they have to!
Because for being one of the greatest console games of all time, it's horrendously ugly by modern standards.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
I would also love to see Super Mario All-Stars: 2008. The first 4 Super Mario games with incredible, updated art, but identical game play.
Switch - SW-3699-5063-5018
Which original game did you like better? I was a big fan of Mega Man back in the day and had scarcely even heard of Bionic Commando. Not surprisingly, I loved MM9 and was kind of meh about Bionic Commando.
Oh and I'd love to see another 8-bit Zelda game. Preferably with an easy to use level editor & a quality online level sharing system.
Steam ID : rwb36, Twitter : Werezompire,
New Super Mario All-Stars would sell like hotcakes.
Edit - Didn't see Feral's post, that's what I get for just reading page one and then just pressing the reply button.
Nothing's forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten
As for other games, I want a full 3d remake of the old Aces of the Pacific or Aces Over Europe games. It's been way too long since I've been able to play a good, somewhat arcady combat flight sim. Make it somewhat like the Ace Combat series except with World War II fighters and a much less cheesy story.
They could even do a sequel where they did the same to the Mario Land series.
At any rate, I'm going to say Sonic is easily the most in need of a new retro game. Even the 2D Sonic games that haven't been horrible (like the Rush series) don't have classic Sonic gameplay. They have something that sort of approximates it (but not really). The last Sonic game to actually have classic Sonic gameplay was Sonic Pocket Adventure and that was almost ten years ago. Sonic gameplay is about momentum, not speed; modern Sonic engines get that wrong.
I'd also like to see an HD remake of Mortal Kombat 2 because it would look hilarious.
I love this game
A remake would be fine with me.
Demake....Final Fantasy. I want to see a brand new final fantasy using the FFVI engine and gameplay.
I swear, Ubisoft is the west's answer to Capcom.
