I'm trying to set up a forum for work. We're a non-profit so we don't have any money to spend on anything other than my time so I'm working with open source solutions.

I remember php bb being good, but when I installed it, well... pages have about a 1 minute load time.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to either fix my load times or an alternative software solution?

I set phpbb up on my home computer and I can access it from my uni generally about as fast as any webpage...

We could use some more information. Hardware? Is your routing set up correctly? Are you losing packets? Are you using Linux or BSD? Which one?

There's a dozen reasons why it could be going slow.
