Two people on network playing Steam games together

Me and my friends have off and on gotten together with our computers on my network (Linksys WRT54G Firmware Version: v8.00.5) and played Steam games together like Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, and recently Zombie Panic (HL2 modification).

About a year ago, once, me and a friend couldn't play on the same TF2 server together. If I was playing and he joined, it'd disconnect me. The problem eventually magically fixed itself, but has now come back. I fixed it once by resetting my router and cable modem and both PC's. But it has returned once again, causing us to be unable to play together yet again.

Does anyone know what may be wrong or what ports maybe I need to forward to straighten this out? It sounds like a port usage problem to me, but I could be wrong.
