Help me run System Shock 2 on Vista

So I dug up my old System Shock 2 CD today, hoping for some hot Shodan action and.....

No luck.

I've tried everything. ddfix, no CD cracks, safe_texture_manager, compatibility modes, on and on.

It loads up fine, I can change my keys around, but it crashes the instant I hit 'start' and get to the first loading screen.

If anyone has got it working for Vista, or has had a similar problem, help me out. I just want to get it running out of spite at this point.

    Someone help this man! I have exactly the same problem that he does, I've tried EVERYTHING and it crashes as soon as it loads the first level. Everything else works, cutscenes included. I really want to play this game, and it sucks that you have to do all this stuff just to get it working.

    And by the way, as I said, I have the exact same problems that he does, but with the exception that I don't have Vista, I usea WinXP. So yeah, PLEASE help.

    Try out either the Rebirth or SHTUP mod.

    I think somewhere within one of those links is a link to something else that should fix everything for you. I eventually got it working with vista.

    Even though it says 2K/XP it applies to Vista as well.

    This. Frankly I'm surprised I got it that far. I'm on 64-bit Vista.

    I got Windows 98 up and running in Virtual PC (VirtualBox was real funky with video) but I can't run SS2 on that because it says my videocard isn't good enough.

    There's no download link for that High Poly Pack that Artreus linked to.

    Well google around for those two things. I ran into the thing that fixed it for me when I was trying to install these.

    Okay here it is.

    Running that SS2tool over a fresh install did it for me.
