For years now I've had an expensive collection of imported CDs. Shortly after I first started, one was damaged and I realized I was better off copying them all and leaving the originals someplace safer, so I did just that.
My collecting had slowed down, but I've needed to replace some older copies (been lazy about it). Finally, I imported some more music so I can't ignore the issue I'd seen develop. For several years now it seems like I have not been able to successfully burn a single music CD.
I always end up with either skips or a failed burn, and don't really know what to do. I've tried Nero, Alcohol, and EAC. I used to have a really nice Plextor, but accidentally broke the tray with my knee; it might have developed problems before then. I replaced it with a LITE-ON SHM-165P6S, which is a decent drive AFAIK.
When the burn fails overtly it's always at the very end, when "writing the lead-in". It just never finishes and cancelling results in an unplayable CD. I've even tried leaving it on overnight.
Would anyone be able to help? Do you need any further information?
Is it possible that something along the lines of Starforce has fucked my ability to do this?

Other wise you might want to look into CloneCD, just a warning it isn't free.
No, Nero is still a fantastic burner...it's just that it comes bundled with tons of shit, some of which can be really hard to get rid of.

As for the OP, you might want to check that your burner isn't running in PIO mode. Open up device manager and check your IDE controllers. Also, make sure to run the burner and your CD/DVD-Rom on separate IDE channels (separate cables) if possible.
