I know that classic Alice Cooper isn't well tolerated around here, but "Elected" is appropriate right now and I'm still holding out for "Poison".
I'm not sure if this video is NSFW since one of the girls might be topless in it. In some versions it's blurred, in others its not, so I'm spoilering the link.
The only thing stopping the RB2 strat from being the best plastic guitar evar is that it doesn't have full compatibility with all of the plastic guitar games. Ball's in Activision's court for that one, unfortunately.
The only reason it doesn't work on GH2 is because it's identified as a normal wired controller. If Activision would allow it, I'm pretty sure HMX would patch in RB strat support..

Certainly. Unfortunately, it's likely not high on the priority list of either company.
Well, I returned the GHWT bundle and got the RB2 drums. I still can't believe how bad it was. I'm still deciding which new guitar I want though. (That was one thing GHWT got right.) Have they improved the RB guitar as much as the drumset since the first one? I didn't like how the strum-bar didn't click.
I didn't like the RB1 Strat, and sadly the RB2 Strat isn't much better.
i personally blow chunks without the clicking...
i'm lame but yea... the clicking HELPS haha
i still beat it on expert without the strat... just for really fast strumming sequences can't get rhythm with the strat..
also overdrive deploying = bitch, but i guess with a bass pedal it's the same, but I just feel like a badass throwing that neck up in the air haha.

Wait, someone is actually having problems with OD with the RB2 strat? I didn't know those problems still existed.
not with RB2 strat.. but with RB1 strat.. personally since the strummer and buttons on my two guitars work fine can't justify buying a new guitar... just learn to adapt to the old ones..
I miss solo buttons for songs like GG&HT, but I just love those goddamn candy shaped buttons on the Les Paul so much more.

The GHWT guitar is insanely good though.
What is it you don't like about the RB2 guitar?
The strum bar. The fret buttons (still too clicky). The large size. Mostly the strum bar though.
Whereas GHWT takes the near-perfect Les Paul design, uses a breakaway design that won't fuck up idiotically with any connector pin bullshit, has the standard GH strum bar but a tiny bit looser, while adding the cool grip from the RB strum bar.
Oh yea it was good playin with ya Arikado :]
I gotta get with some more PAers here and hone my skills some more..
or just hone them by myself.. whichever.

Meh, I'm sure there are plenty of people that would agree with me when I say that saying the RB2 strat isn't much better than the RB1 Strat is a horrible overstatment (understatment?). The buttons are better, and the strum bar isn't as squishy, and the back button is in a nice place, and the start button is blocked, and the bass pedal addon is pretty cool.
I'll admit to not playing with the new Les Paul, but the GH3 Les Paul feels so awkward now, after using the RB2 strat for so long.
Those "serious business" people need to get out more. Really, pathing isn't anymore of a skill than me optimizing scores in any fucking video game. They are vastly overrating trial and error with a touch of memorization.
I never understood what the point it was to have a forum based on getting the most out of GH/RB for the masses when certain individuals desperately cling onto their "secret paths" and all that bullshit. "NO ONE CAN HAVE FIRST PLACE EXCEPT FOR ME UNTIL I DIE!"
The funny thing is, they have made similar programs in their shameful Homebrew subforums.
I say go with it, there are talented people out there that will help, and in the end people won't be vying for being the #1 secret keeper.

They've made similar programs for Guitar Hero. I think part of the thing is
OH NOES MY PRECIOUS ROCK BAND CANNOT BE DEBASED TO THE LEVEL OF GUITAR AND ITS DEBAUCHERY WITH COLD MACHINES
Maybe this is only tied to GH/RB, but I've always talked about methods and techniques for getting high scores on other games even with the top ranking people. They didn't feel the need to hide anything since it's public domain to seize the top spot. Also, no one was a douche about it.
The MadCatz cymbal expansions for the Rock Band 2 drum set are shipping now, at least partially. Currently only the 2-cymbal packs are available, but there were stacks of them at Best Buy. I picked up a set.
Mini-review spoilered for length:
The pack comes with two cymbals, but colored wingnuts for yellow, green, and blue inputs, so you can pick which inputs to use the set for. I chose hi-hat, since that's in nearly every song, and crash, since I thought it would be a nice way to end fills.
The cymbals are sturdy and responsive. I didn't have any problems with missed or double hits last night. They are definitely louder than the drum heads; probably on par with the sound of the RB1 kit unmodded. I might investigate adding some cushioning to dampen the sound.
As you can see here, I mounted the cymbals as close to "natural" position as I could. The crash in this picture is at the highest position possible. Both the crash and the hi-hat are as far to the left as they can go; you can't move the hi-hat so it's completely to the left of the snare, unfortunately. Still it feels more natural than playing hi-hat hits on the yellow pad.
Here's a view from the back. You can see the clamps in this shot. The 2-pack comes with two straight clamps, contrary to earlier reports that it comes with one y-clamp and one straight clamp. The lack of a Y means that you can't buy two of these packs and end up with the full set of three; you have to wait for the three-pack or possibly the single cymbals. You can't put two clamps on the same leg of the kit.
Actually, the vast majority of songs in Rock Band have ride cymbal usage as well as hi-hat. I set up my ION kit with yellow and blue cymbals because you always can tell when to hit the green cymbal, but I didn't want to get used to playing on the yellow or blue pad for everything and then have to learn it all again.
So, what's the more popular choice around here? Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero Band?
Personally, I am going to obviously favour the game that gives me access to ~275 songs when I turn it on. Your situation may not reflect mine. I have clearly already chosen my side.
So you know how supposedly (not speaking from experience here) if you cheat on someone you end up being extra affectionate with the person you cheated on to compensate? Is it odd that I kinda feel obligated to do that with RB after having a good time w/ WT last night?

Also, HOLY SHIT THATS ALOT OF SONGS!
But, but there are over 480 songs in Guitar Hero games!

Personally, I think if you had to get just one, it'd be silly to go with GH now, as with RB2 you get more songs off the bat, and then for a rental you get almost all the songs in RB1, putting you waaaay above GH.

Any other questions?
Will they be selling a single cymbal? I really, really want to go grab this now, but I KNOW I will want 3 eventually, so I'm wondering if it's worth waiting until the 3-pack surfaces...

Yes, they will be selling individual cymbals. The breakdown is:
Single: $20
Double: $30
Triple: $40
So there is money to be saved in the pack. The going assumption is that the single cymbal will come with a Y bracket, so that it can be paired with the double pack to be used as a full set.
I've spent almost two years developing my "pathing skills," so I'm against the public release of a program like this.
Yes, pathing is a skill. It takes a bunch of time. I often "release" paths when I find them, but sometimes I don't- especially Full Band paths since they can take hours to create.
How is it selfish not to share the fruits of my labors?
OH GOD SMUG HOW COULD YOU DESTROY THIS GUY'S LIFE WORK!?!?

PATHING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.
And of course it's a staffer that is the first to come in with the "High scores is serious business" bitching.
