Scales (for wieghing shit)

Hi guys, I want a scale.

Why? Well, mostly because they're cool. I'll certainly use it to weigh drugs, however since I don't usually have drugs in my possession I'm not looking for those little pocket scales that are so popular.

Indeed, portability isn't an issue at all. A fairly bulky thing that just sits on a desk would be ideal. It needs to be precise down to 0.1g (not one of those scales that has the decimal place, but is only accurate to half a gram). I'd also like it to be able to weigh some heavier stuff as well, at least a pound, but really the more the better. Why? Because, again, its neat. I'd be able to weigh random stuff I find around me, which would greatly amuse me, plus its just a generally neat tool to have around.

I'm asking you guys because I know nothing about scales and there is a pretty big market for them. Which brands should I trust? What types of scales would be appropriate for the weights that I want to deal with? Is there any way I can get this stuff for cheap or free (used stuff from university labs comes to mind, for instance).

Any suggestions?

The OXO kitchen scale looks pretty good.

The head unit pulls away from the base so you can weigh wider stuff and still see.

Unless you're going to be working with pounds, then just find a cheap set of digital scales. I use them until they need calibration, and then just go buy another set at the goth clothing store in the mall.

You can check their accuracy by weighing a nickle, which should sit on 5 grams exactly.

Newegg. Something like this would be ideal. I don't know the quality of this product, but that price is incredible. The only scale I've seen someone have that was usable for that amount and at .1g increments was over $100.

You get what you pay for though, and warranties on scales are worthless.

Meh, only weighs down to 1 gram, not 0.1.

Man, this is exhausting. I just spent an hour trawling the internet and have not gotten very far. I have found some I've wanted, but the prices vary greatly, especially when it comes to shipping it to where I live.

It seems like its very hard to find a scale close to the one that I want that isn't a pocket scale. I think (perhaps wrongly) that a somewhat bulky tabletop scale would be sturdier and would generally last longer than a miniaturized scale. Perhaps not, but finding a scale bigger than my hand is actually quite a challenge.

I guess I'm being too picky, but I didn't expect this to be so difficult.

You might want to consider getting a nicer pocket scale I think. I was at my old roommates new place the other day and saw her new scale she got and it was pretty nice. It was definitely a pocket scale, but it had a hinged black plastic cover that covers the whole thing. I think it was like $18 or something and it's one of the most accurate scales I've seen. Ill ask her later about brand if I see her online.

What I think you're looking for is definitely something from a high school or college lab. We had one in high school (buddy's mom was a bio teacher) and it weighed out to 3 decimals and one of my roommates had one in college that was just as nice. These would be ideal, but I think they're really expensive, or at least more than I would want to pay for a scale.

EDIT: She said she has a fuzion 150, which I found a picture of here. I'm not sure if that is what you're looking for or not, but I can vouch that it is a quality tool.

Whoops, misread that. I'd say just go with a pocket scale. Sure, you get some lemons, but I've had some that lasted years of heavy use, and it's not a big deal to replace if broken/lost. If you're seriously looking for something larger, larger tobacconists and smoke shops should carry what you're looking for. It's not really something I'd order online unless my daily activities were pretty spotless.
