So, there's a group of us traveling soon with our DS's. I've seen a few "What DS game should I get?" threads, but this one has a more specific goal. What multiplayer games for the DS would be reasonably easy to get ahold of and might entertain a group of 3-4 while traveling? Mariokart is the only thing that springs to mind so far.

Advance Wars, maybe?
Thought of that. Advance Wars is fun, but the games take so bloody long. It's only fun if everyone is being die-hard about it.
Bomberman's always great fun, and the DS versions have 8-person multi off of a single cart.
If you can find vanilla "Bomberman", it should be much cheaper than the newer "Bomberman! Land! Touch!" - while the latter has much better single-player and online multiplayer, the local multiplayer is the same. I paid $15 for Bomberman like 3 years ago, so it should be dirt cheap by now.
I'm sad and a little surprised that I'm the only person to mention Meteos. Did anyone else get to play the multiplayer in that game? It's pretty good with single-card multiplayer and incredible with multi-card. I've played that game for many hours with 3-4 people.
Clubhouse Games, Worms 2, Tetris DS. All good picks.
Please be warned that some places/reviews have said the single card multiplayer is sometimes a bit buggy. However, you can still play multiplayer with a single DS hot-potato style.

The problem I've noticed with Meteos is if you play it against someone who doesn't know how to play or has never played it before, they're going to get destroyed repeatedly until they hate the game.

I suppose that makes sense, everyone I played with had relatively the same skill level. That should still be fine in this case, as these people people should be starting the game about the same time.
Worms Open Warfare 2 is awesome but I don't know if it is 4 player. I know it is at least 2 player on one card wirelessly, and probably up to 4 player hotseat (passing the DS around).
Metroid Prime Hunters is not half bad fun either, it's 4 player local wireless with just one card.
Thread needs more Pac Man Vs. (on the Namco Museum cart) - single cart multiplayer pac man on the go.
Pac-Man Vs. like the GameCube/GBA Pac-Man Vs.?
Why was I not informed of this sooner?
Edit: Having not played the DS version, I cannot say for certain. But there are a few maps to choose from, up to three players controlling ghosts (unused ghosts start ineffective but become activated when touched by another ghost), one person playing as PacMan. PacMan can see the whole screen, ghosts have a zoom-in of their vicinity and radar for the other ghosts. Whoever kills PacMan becomes him for the next round; if he clears the level, same player maintains control.
It's close enough to still be a lot of fun, and considering you're more likely to run into 4 DSes + someone with Namco Museum DS than a Gamecube + 3 GCN-GBA cables + 3 GBAs + a copy of Pac-Man Vs. (by itself or bundled with something) it's much easier to play.
Whenever I go on a business trip or vacation I spend at least one hour scouring the local Gamestops, Gamecrazys, GAMEs, and any mom and pop for new and used birds. I current have seven with five in good working order.
Considering I need 16 for the ultimate double dash rig I still have a ways to go.
Worms: Open Warfare 2 is excellent and can be had for rather cheap, glad to hear that was picked. Metroid Prime: Hunters is fun if you're good at it, but that takes a while and a lot of hand cramps to get there. Tetris DS is great for groups.

god no, mario party is fun the first five times you play it
after that it just turns into rage
I mean, you could play a game of Mario Party where you run and beat the shit out of each other for stars for an hour or so.
Or you can get Super Mario 64 DS and play its multiplayer (multi-cart) game of running and beating the shit out of each other for stars in roughly 90 sec. intervals.

Too bad that wasn't on the PSP.
I think that's the same one that came out here.
Actually, I think the second one just came out, but I can't vouch for that. (Haven't played it, but it's probably more of the same.)

METEOS.
Meteos is so good multiplayer. Soooo good.
It's one of the best (and often overlooked) multiplayer games on the DS. Only one card needed, and so many great games to play.

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
Everyone loves to shoot each other.

No. It's not good for anything but wearing out your L and R buttons.

If you're a lefty, it's pretty important for Meteos. No prob if you're right-handed. I think you're fine with Worms.

Now I'd suggest three wavebirds so you don't get the cords tangled, but that's the extent of the special requirements for the best game ever.
Man I wish that was on the PSP.
I usually settle for used.
