I haven't yet tried the beta, but I was impressed to learn that if I want a physical copy of the retail release, all I have to do is pay for shipping. <3 Stardock.

Out of curiosity, do I need to interact with Impulse in any way, shape, or form with regards to the Fallen Enchantress beta? If yes, I'm going to stay the hell away. Still bitter at my account information being sold to Gamestop, you see.

I've tried to play twice and both times it has crashed to desktop within the first five or six turns of the tutorial. :(

The tutorial is totally bugged. At the same time, you can learn the game by playing, so start a new game and let it rip. It's actually much better then the first, and now that i've got combat down, it's really fun.

Thanks, I'll give it another try.

Stardock/Wardell get a big fuck you from me for that too. Pulling that after spouting all that Gamer's Bill of Rights stuff, without offering any alternative to customers for divorcing their Stardock games from Impulse pretty much shows his true colors. Stardock has lost my trust.

It seems like ever since the release of Gal Civ 2 Wardell has done his best to say the worst possible things in an attempt to make everyone hate him. It's crazy how much goodwill they earned with their first few games and how far their CEO has gone to destroy it.

Wardell is a bit of a nutter, but Stardock is still giving me Fallen Enchantress for free, and if I want the physical edition all I have to do is pay for shipping. That's great. And as long as that game is good and they eventually bring me Galactic Civilizations 3 and other fun games, I really don't care what he has to say.

I am saddened that with Gamestop taking over the store, Stardock's games no longer have the digital download + physical edition option. I loved that choice, and the only extra cost was shipping.

Dashui, you have a much more positive outlook than I would have if I had gone ahead and ordered Elemental.

That said, I'll keep my ears open to see if Fallen Enchantress is good or not.

Well, I had an opportunity to play this a bit this morning. I played as the red adventure guy and the yellow builder guy. It still crashes a lot but I like how the tech tree has been reworked though advancement seems slow, adventuring seems like a viable economic base. The negotiating AI isn't as bad, though strategic and tactical still needs improvement, overall outlook: promising.

I like where this is heading, no doubt. Alot of the ideas behind empire and character creation are solid. I also want to see if I can make heroes that I can recruit in an editor, because that would be awesome as well.
Things I don't like? Most of it are things like transparency. I don't know what will be a good growth spot for a town until I get a pioneer there. Imbuing champions seems backwards, but that's ok. How is strength calculated? I had 2 armies, 1 at level 20 and the other at 14. The 20 was deadly, yet the one at 14, fully filled out, was weak. I've overtaxed towns, and nothing really happened. I've designed new units, and as far as I can tell, the auto ones are essentially the same.

Oh, and spawn points need to be fixed. If I spawn in the desert 1 more time, I'll fucking lose it.

New beta is scheduled to come out today, including art assets. This gameplay walkthrough on their blog is making it look pretty sweet and it's really starting to look like what the original should have been.
