Apart from your email woes that's apparently normal. If you got your receipt, your account should be registered for the preorder, but you won't see it on the list til the transaction goes through. Beta doods may have a widget of some sort left over, however.
Man, I'm starting to get this game figured out and it is so good. There is so much shit to do.
how are thou playing already? beta?
Yeah I preordered at last year's PAX, I've been in beta forever. The game really just took off in the last few months though. The first several months were essentially unplayable (and often due to bugs, it was literally unplayable). Beta4 has been pretty great though, aside from some performance issues. The game is gorgeous and so so deep. There's just so much to do, I want to do everything at once.
Anyone getting the collector's edition? If so, where you guys buying it from?
Think it lists best buy and wal-mart, so I might check the former out next week.
I really wanted to get it and was going to buy it off their site (which I assume is impulse) since I downloading it sounds appealing, but I'm not sure about paying 100 bucks from a company _I_ am not too familiar with it (73 CDN + 20+ shipping).

For what it's worth, Stardock is pretty much the best company. Their games are terrific and all contact I've ever had with anyone who works there has been first class. They are the only company besides possibly Blizzard that I would blindly trust with my money without hesitation.
Yeah Stardock support is fantastic, they've helped me out on numerous occasions and they won't ban you out of hand if you want two accounts merged *coughSteamcough* :P

Phew, that's good news then. Hopefully support will fix my e-mail probably anyway, though. I'd really like for everything to come to the right address.

I had to go through their support before, and they were indeed fantastic. I also love their Digital Download + Box Edition option when purchasing their games. I like boxed versions, after all, but being able to also download it immediately is great.

I have heard good things about Stardock, but it is more I've not played any of their games.
Really like the look of this though, so will definitely be giving it a shot.
I wish the videos on their site focused more on the gameplay than the devs complaining about bugs that they ran into. Of course, maybe that is cause it reminds me too much of work ;p
Wonder if giantbomb will do a quick look...
Oh, and though I do agree that Blizzard is a company I trust giving money to, I'm still annoyed at the fact that it took them a week to get back to me regarding my battle-net issue booo

You need to go get yourself Galactic Civilizations 2 with the expansion packs. And then prepare to lose complete track of time.

It is another reason I'm hesitant of getting Elemental online, since I do not have an Impulse account...I do not really need/want another way of being able to easily spend money.
One thing I could not get from the videos is this game real time or turn base? I was getting the impression real time, and maybe this was just a bug, but it just seemed the characters the player was interacting with, appeared to be to be "waiting" (as in not the player's units, the other units he found)

The game is turn based, but you can take a great many actions per turn, Civilization style. It just looks a little more lively.
I suppose it would be fair to say it plays a bit more lively in general as well, at that. Much of the game is based around tromping your Channeler and his lackeys around the countryside stamping out bandits, feeding the wildlife and recruiting fresh lackeys to avoid being eaten yourself. Less founding cities, more running away from giant spiders. Unless some of the giant spiders are your friends. In that case you can let the spiders fight it out and run away before they notice you're gone.
It's a crazy mix of Civ', Populous, the steaming entrails of a mythical pc-exclusive rpg and more than just a dash of Alpha Centauri all rolled into one delicious lump of xml that looks a lot like Master of Magic would if you squinted really hard and pretended it was an abstract oil painting.
Well I just went ahead and 'pre-ordered' Elemental from Stardock... though the Impulse website *just* went down apparently and I can't actually get Impulse yet. Yay.
Edit: Actually, the Impulse site isn't down... but the Impulse Setup download is timing out on me. Odd.
Re-Edit: Solved, my Hosts file mod was blocking the download apparently, how bizarre. Getting Impulse installed now...
Can more than two sides participate in a battle in any way? I really liked how in the Age of Wonders games unit stacks surrounding the one being attacked would get drawn into the fight.
Anyone know if this actually will have support for 64-bit CPUs, which allows you to create maps so large, they could potentially take years to play through?
I remember Brad Wardell mentioning it in a Gamasutra article a year ago, but I haven't been able to find any further info since then.

Stardock is even toying with the idea of taking advantage of 64-bit machines, which allow in excess of 2 gigabytes of RAM, to support "huge, epic maps -- I mean, truly epic," Wardell noted.
"People play campaigns in Dungeons & Dragons in the real world that last for years. We could do that with 64-bit. We couldn't do it with 32-bit because you can't make the landmass that big -- that's been a big memory limitation," he claimed. "If someone wants to play a game that lasts for three years, who are we to stop them?"
I hope it's in there. Would be a really interesting feature.

Stardock is saying on the Elemental forums that they plan to have 1.0 live for beta testers (in this case anyone who has been charged for pre ordering is considered a beta tester) around "midday" today. I don't know if mid day means 11am or 2pm, or what timezone that is, but by all accounts, the full version should drop for those with paid pre-orders any time in the next couple hours.

There is also a Stardock IRC channel that I plan on lurking in until I am granted sweet release. There's several of their devs and other various staff in there.
Brad mentioned somewhere recently that they haven't received a 64-bit version of Havok yet, so we'll have to wait for a while for those obscenely huge maps.
Tom Chick at fidgit has a sort of first impressions/game diaries/review-lite thing. On the surface some of it is dismaying, but there is a caveat.
The review mainly focuses on Elemental's "messed up" math. Tom states that when, for example, a research value of 5 receives a 25% (1.25 of 5) and 50% (2.5 of 5) bonus from racial effects, that it should total up to 8.75, and Elemental shows it as 9.4.
Frogboy (the Stardock CEO) responded to clarify that Elemental handles the math differently from how Tom assumes it does. The 5 receives its 25% bonus to become 6.25 and then that 6.25 receives the 50% bonus to 9.375, which the game rounds up to 9.4.
TL;DR - The main thrust of this reviewer's major complaint is actually inaccurate. Frogboy agreed that the game needs to be modified to more clearly display how it handles the math, which I can imagine we'll see in an early patch.
What this also demonstrates is that you want cities to specialize. When your cities level up, you can choose to give them a boost to technical research, arcane research, or gold production. It behooves you to lump all of one type of research in a single city, and all of another type in another city, and gold production in another. If each city has a little of everything, you're not "stacking" multipliers. Better to have all your research/gold bonus effects stacked in one city per type, so the modifiers multiply each other.
How do I actually download games through Impulse? Will it show up on my games list when its released? This is a bit counter-intuitive compared to steam. All I have is an e-mail showing me I bought the game theres nothing in impulse itself.

You can add the key in the e-mail through impulse's interface if it doesn't show up automatically when the game is released.
Yeah, I deleted the beta to have a fresh install and it keeps telling me my registration is invalid if I try and download it. Guess its still not officially up yet.

Hi guys,
We're play testing through a pre-day 0 version of Elemental. It is beyond the digital gold version but it isn't day 0 either. We hope to have it up in the next couple of hours.
Stay tuned.
Update: And we do plan to make it available for pre-order users today too.

Apparently it's just about ready to be released, but they have to re-upload the .exe to the servers because they found and fixed a save game crash bug.
I still haven't received an e-mail with my key or that I've been charged for the pre-order, so I'm worried I won't get to download and play it right away. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

The new estimate is 11:00 PM Eastern. It was 10:00 PM Eastern a few minutes ago. And before that it was something else and before that, etc, etc. I'm not upset or anything. These people are working on their days off to get this released. Developers should probably hold off on giving specific times for digital releases, though. :P

I really want to be upset about Sunday Morning -> Sunday mid-day -> who knows when -> soon -> next 80 minutes -> wait I meant 160 -> okay hold on one more hour, but these dudes are working on a Sunday night so I can't really muster the heart to be upset.

Plus, it wasn't even supposed to be released until Tuesday. If the brick and mortar stores hadn't broken the street date, this never would've happened.

Just got the email. My wallet is still feeling the ass-rape after a week of taking the girls to Disney, but I must have this. I'll think of it as my reward for pushing a stroller in a heat index of over 100 for six days. Like everyone here, I've been waiting for a good turn-based successor to MoM. Got a week and a half to burn before I'm back to work, almost done with SC2's single player capmaign, so I guess I'll let this keep me busy.
Now, if only someone would do MOO. Sins is awesome and all, but it just doesn't feel the same.

well, preorders/beta players were always supposed to get in tomorrow morning, so if they hadn't bumped it up it this delay/ "OMG ITS TEH BROKEN" still would have happened tomorrow...That being said i really don't care as long as it's out in the next 2-3 hours so i can start it downloading before i go to bed and play when i get home from work tomorrow..except i still haven't even gotten email confirmation from my week ago preorder

Can I perhaps introduce you to Galactic Civilizatons 2? Stardock made it a few years ago, it is pretty similar to Elemental in general, but in space.
As an aside, track down Pax Imperial: Eminent Domain. It's pretty much MOO2 in real time. It's old though, almost as old as MOO 2. Gal Civ 2 is much more accessible. I mean, you have impulse installed and everything.....

Eh, I like GalCiv2, but it doesn't have the same feel as MoO1-2 (its still a good game and anyone who hasn't played it should) I just think someone could take another crack at it.
