good game idea?

- construct the human body from the inside.
- solve the puzzle of giving proper nutrient and oxygen support to an increasingly advanced organism.
- Design a brain of choice, do you want your character to become a genius scientist, a famous athlete or
a respected politician?
- see how your design interacts with the outside world and cope with events like: being attacked by bullies, taking math tests, love, unprofessional coworkers, baseball events and funerals,

- gameplay reminiscent of DOTA in the arteries and veins where invading armies of bakteria and viruses must be stopped by the use of a wide array of defensive measures like: T-killer cells, antibodies, macrophages, blood platelets and special abilities.

- Catch nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract to pay for the placement, uppgrade and construction of organs and extracellular matrix.

I think successful videogames are more concerned with deconstructing the human body from the outside.

Good game ideas do not matter, it is all about execution. Look at Alone in the Dark.

although I do agree a game, or series of games, starring theorists and philosophers would be a good idea

Dammit, every time I open one of these threads I hope for something on par with that one. Someone should go back and put it in awesome posts, if it hasn't been done already.

Sounds like it could be an awesome game if done right. So, when are you going to start making it?

thanks for that encouraging comment Raslin. i'm getting a masters degree in biomedicine and my patience for computers is pretty limited so the programming part is a problem.

So there's these gangs that you can join, and one is like, this, like group of magic kids and they can open a door to a parallel universe, but it's got all these morals, so it's great for the kids.

I'm not really sure there's a game to play at the core of that concept. The simulation aspect doesn't sound inherently fun. There's a suggestion for it to be like DotA on the surface, but not much connection between the two.

It's sort of like when you have an idea for a song, but you don't play any instruments and haven't figured out what it should sound like. But you do know what the song should be about, and that it should end up sounding sort of like Dave Matthews.

    sweet, another english major

in the last half of the game you just mock the inefficiency of language at conveying ideas

I imagine that there would be four distinctly different types of game mechanics in place:
the defense of the organism level: here you use nutrients to buy different kinds of defensive microorganisms that will circulate in the blood vessels or the lymphatic system. Both of which are built by the player. it would be possible to build stationary defenses in order to protect vulnurable organs from damage. there should also be some sort of hero like character available that you can control more directly who can use special abilities to really smash the foes.

the sandbox level: the player can spend nutrients to buy, upgrade and place organs wherever he chooses in the space that's given. when the character grows in size with age, more room will be available to get more organs and to increase the size of existing ones. Better and more organs will give the character better abilities and a potential to make greater accomplishments. If the player has problems with his character eating too much fast food, it would be possible to build three livers in a series and connect them to the blood flow to detoxify the compounds. The placement of lymphatic tissue and blood vessels would be very similar to how a player connects stations with railroads in transport tycoon. The creation of extracellular matrix will however be more organic. Different kinds of cells are placed within the sandbox. They will then start to create the component the player is interested in, but the amount they create and the quality will be decided by other factors. it will also be impossible to combine different sorts of extracellular matrix with each other, which means that the player must choose wisely which kinds of matrix he wants around his organs.
The brain will have a separate screen. The player will be able to create different zones, very much like in sim city. If you want a smart character, you build big, high quality zones for problem solving. If you want an athlete, an advanced and big motor cortex might be good.

the nutrient collection level: This takes place in the gastrointestinal tract. whenever the character eats something, nutrients of different shapes and colors will slowly fall down like the building blocks in tetris. The job of the player is now to try and collect the most valuable nutrients possible in order to use them later for improving the body. The player must construct a system to break down the nutrients but also defend against incoming bacteria and viruses.

the life level: here, the player will make important choices for the character in different situations.

Sorry man, I don't find this concept fun at all. It could be because I'm a medical student, so after studying this stuff all day, the last things I want to worry about are RBCs and T-cells and stuff when I plop down on the couch to unwind. Who knows, in actual execution it may work, but thinking about the theme alone I just can't see myself liking this.

I unfortunately can't find a good video from the Invader Zim episode "Dark Harvest," so instead I'll offer a quote:

Dib: I suppose you have a heart?
    Zim: Six of them.
    Dib: Intestines?
    Zim: Large and small.
    Dib: Spleen?
    Zim: In three different colors.
