Hallucinations

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone here could satisfy my curiosity regarding something I saw recently. I watched an episode of the Japanese anime Samurai Champloo called Beatbox Bandits "Evil Spirits of Mountain", and during a fight scene with the false demons, Mugen breathes the smoke of the grass that is burning in the crop field, everything around him changes in a psychedelic orgy and he starts flying.

Is cannabis actually capable of causing hallucinations like the ones showed in this scene?, I am not trying to cause any kind of troubles here, so please forgive me if this question sounds stupid.

Hear my warnings, unbelievers. We have raised altars in this land so that we may sacrifice you to our gods. There is no hope in opposing the inevitable. Put down your arms, unbelievers, and bow before the forces of Chaos!

I think...(think)...that while pot can cause hallucinations after smoking A LOT of it, I'm not sure if the hallucinations can reach that kind of a level. I know that if you have enough pot, you may start hallucinating, but I would imagine it's at a lower "level" than what you're describing, which seems to be similar to an acid trip (obviously that's not what's burning, I know...:) ).

Yeah, I wouldn't put much stock in what you seen in animes.

I'm sure there's plenty of drugs that will cause that kind of hallucination, but never heard of pot being one of them.

Marijuana is extremely unlikely to cause hallucinations when smoked, and certainly nothing like a "psychedelic orgy". When taken orally in high doses, relatively minor hallucinations are possible (visual distortions, that sort of thing). Cannabis is also not known to cause distortions in the time/space continuum that lead to flying, while we're on the subject. :P

Yeah I don't smoke pot often, but usually when I do it is a lot. I've never gotten to a stage of hallucination so I couldn't imagine how much you would have to smoke to start.

EDiT: It may also have to do with the particular strand, i mean there is more then one variant of pot

    Marijuana isn't a hallucinogen.

Opium can produce mild hallucinations though, which also grows as wild plants, and is popular (and grows naturally) in southeast Asia. If they were referencing anything that exists, it was probably opium.

Probably shouldn't believe what you see in anime though.

The mushroom trips in Cowboy Bebob were completely inaccurate.

The two ways that pot could cause hallucinations is if it's either laced with something that could cause it, or smoke A LOT of it, but that would be more the effect of getting lightheaded and mild oxygen deprivation. Pot in and of itself won't do it under normal conditions.

Pretty much what everyone said here, there's no way those kind of effects are going to be had simply from smoking straight pot.

Drug effects are nearly always exaggerated in media.

Thanks for the clarification, I have never used any kind of substances, and after seeing this chapter I was wondering if such vivid dreams/hallucinations were just an invention.

More weird stuff happens, but I guess it is just an exageration as Qliphoth stated.

I know it's weird to drudge up old convos, but if you smoke a blunt of chronic, you will see all sorts of middle earth shit.

It's also more or less against the rules here, so please don't do it.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
