'Sup? Read this.
This thread is going to be a pleasure to read, not a chore. So listen up, delinquents.
RULES:
- Provide links or youtube videos for every track you cite. If you can't cite then don't post it. This is not a poll thread.
- If they are youtube videos, type the song title and put the video in a spoiler below (you'll need to use url tags for it to display).
- One song per game; no more than three songs per platform. Yes, it sucks, but this stops people flooding the thread with every single track from some obscure j-pop dating sim.
- Orchestral arrangements/remixes/fan recordings are cool, but try to get ones that stay, tune-wise, faithful to the original.
Pro tip before this thread gets too big. Add &fmt=18 to the end of your youtube urls for better sound.

Cheggit: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest - Battle Themes (ignore the intro)
And Dynasty Warriors 6 (really the whole series, but 6 is the one I've been playing, so there!) has some good music for setting one to the mood of slaying hundreds of generic feudal chinese. My favorite:
Dynasty Warriors 6 - Welcome to China
Also much love for Tarm Ruins, the Oracle series is so underappreciated around here
Final Fantasy VII - 'Still More Fighting' (or, 'Those Who Fight Further' depending on which translation you go by)
it is my most favourite boss theme from any game ever.
PS2
Final Fantasy X - 'To Zanarkand'
just beautiful. There's an amazing orchestral performance of it on youtube.
Basically anything by Nobuo Uematsu is pretty much awesome.
Do... Re... Mi... So... Fa.... Do... Re.... Do...
Forget it...
try and not feel awesome while playing this music and shooting people in whatever game. it's just fantastic.
Probably the game's second most recognisable track, since it plays first on every level.
Ape Escape: Trick Castle/Crumbling Castle
I don't think this game gets quite as much recognition as it deserves. Has a great soundtrack.
Sonic Adventure 2: Green Forest
All of Sonic's level tunes are good but I could only pick one.
I listen to it every time I need to relax.
Ico - The Save Couch Theme (Uh, you can call it "Heal" if you really want to.)
Bioshock- The Ocean on His Shoulders (Though I don't care for the generic "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE SCARED" noises at the very beginning.)
Edit for variety and "one theme per game" rule. Sorry, ICO's just too awesome for its own good.
It's been great ever since the first trailer.
or really just most of the songs from NG NES
PS2 - MGS2 Main Theme
NES - Castlevania, Simon's Theme:
NDS - Order of Ecclesia, Main theme:
NES - Contra, theme:
PC - Duke Nukem Theme (Grabbag)
SNES - Super Metroid Ending Theme
SNES - StarFox Ending Theme
Steam ID: slashx000______Twitter: @bill_at_zeboyd______ Facebook: Zeboyd Games
Chrono Cross - Dream of the Shore
I could listen to it for hours.
Final Fantasy X - At the End of the Abyss
Endless Ocean - Prayer
Xenosaga Episode I - Final Battle
Xenosaga Episode III - Godsibb
PPS: ONE THEME PER GAME; THREE GAMES PER PLATFORM.
Just a reminder in case people have skipped the OP.
Secret of Mana: Dark Lich Battle
Gameboy
Tetris Type C
NES - Tecmo Super Bowl, Super Bowl win music -
PC - Diablo Tristram music -
Tall-Paul MIPsDroid
Street Fighter 2010: ??? Name
Rockin' medley
NES
Ducktales: African Mines
Tecmo Super Bowl - Passing Touchdown Music
NES - Mega Man 2 - Dr.Wily Stages 1&2
I have to ask, though, won't the mods think this is a poll thread and close it?
So, these are by no means my favorite favorite, just good ones off the top of my head.
Halo 3: Never Forget
Xenosaga Ep. 3: Promised Pain
Lost Odyssey: A Sign of Hope
Blue Dragon: Anger and Sorrow
I can think of a few others but I can't find links to videos so I'll just keep em to myself for now.
EDIT: Sorry about the one song per game thing. Ermm....maybe I should remove one. Let me think about which.
Also that Homeworld video above; that's not game music, that's Barbers Adagio for Strings, it was just in the cinematic where you come back to your world being destroyed. That's not a spoiler.
EDIT2: Removed.
Origin: Galedrid - Nintendo: Galedrid/3222-6858-1045
Blizzard: Galedrid#1367 - FFXIV: Galedrid Kingshand
The video goes on till like 7 minutes, even though the song is 2. Some people are idiots.
To be honest though,
every single track from this game is pure awesome.
Linking to youtube without embedding is a bitch.
Tales of Symphonia - The Law of the Battle
OutRun 2 - Splash Wave
Command & Conquer - Hell March
Mass Effect had some great music, but the best has to be this piece, when you're looking at the galaxy map
Deus Ex had some great music too, for it's limited technology. Clearly - clearly - this was the best
Half-Life 2 had very little music, but what it did have was pretty great. The Episodes improved on every aspect of the original, including the music department, and most people would probably pick another track, but this one is my personal favorite

TMNT - Overworld Music
Dr. Mario - Fever
Zelda II - Overworld
SNES:
Secret of Mana - Intro
Turtles In Time - Sewer Surfing
(I could just post all Square and Zelda music, but I am trying to keep it varied)
Super Mario Kart - Koopa Beach
PS:
Final Fantasy VIII - Balamb Garden
Tekken 3 - King Theme
Castlevania: SOTN - Dance of Pales
N64:
Wave Race 64 - Twilight City
Tetrisphere - Extol
Mario 64 - Jolly Roger Bay (I'm a Mario freak, I know)
I'll do more platforms later, oy ...
Wild Arms-Intro Theme (can't find the name of the song )
This one is surprisingly good and not something that I would actually expect to be in The Sims.
While I have stopped playing World of Warcraft a long time ago, it has some really good music. This would be my favorite piece of music from WoW:
The Barrens
Half-Life 2: Episode Two - Vortal Combat
I also really like Midna's Desperation from Twilight Princess, but Flippy posted that in the OP.
ninja edit: This, too. Creepy.
...and the second one...
...and the third one, too.
They're all the same song, so it doesn't break that OSAG rule, right?
Alot of folks gave Digital Devil Saga: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha a lot of shit, but I say 'fuck 'em.
I'd have posted An Old Foe instead, in truth, but Gouma-Den doesn't have that heavy metal slamming-into-a-brick-wall effect that might get some folks peeved.
And there's something I just fine enthralling about the music of Macross: Scrambled Valkyries from the SNES.
Fun fact: Rather than have all the music and sound effects sharing the same audio channels the developers used a 6/2 split and devoted the channels to one type of sound or the other, meaning that sound effects will never cut out the music!
EDIT: CHB: The Wild Arms intro's titled "Into the Wilderness".
EDIT: No, I just looked on youtube and the intros for both versions are the same. Either there was a scrapped beta that got leaked or the J-pop corruption came later on in the series (I'm bettin' that).
Isn't this the intro where the US version was actually better because it didn't have some annoying J-pop princess singing lyrics over it?
Civilization IV: Baba Yetu
Composed by Christopher Tin and sung by Stanford Talisman, college a cappella group that focuses on African music.
