Use the one built into Windows. You'll need your Windows XP CD.
Control Panel - Regional and Language Settings - Languages tab - Check the box for "Install files for East Asian languages"
After a bit of installation, click on "Details" - Under "Installed services" click "Add", Input language - Chinese (PRC), Keyboard layout - Default
The language bar should appear on your taskbar if it isn't there already. Alt-Shift to switch between language inputs. The input for Chinese is in hanyu pinyin.
So, typing in 'women' gets you 我们, 'xiexieni' gets you 谢谢你.
