I was just wondering exactly what fring was. i am getting an iphone soon so i want to know if this could save me some money on the bill, the only thing is i dont know how it works? i have read what it said on the website but im still abit up in the air to what its all about.
It's voice over IP. It let's you make a phone call using a data connection rather than the standard voice connection provided by your carrier. If the data connection is your carrier's mobile data connection (i.e. the 3G data service), you probably won't save much money, if any. If the data connection is the iPhone's wifi connection, you might save some money, depending on whether or not you have to pay for the wifi. Basically, if you've got access to free wifi somewhere, you can make free calls to other Skype / fring users, or potentially pretty cheap calls to landlines and cell phones, as long as you're in that free / cheap wifi hotspot.
I think it'd be most useful if you make a lot of international calls. I could never get it to work, though. The calls kept failing on me. So I don't really know what the deal is with Fring. If nothing else, it's a serviceable free chat client...
