I loved Savage but can't be bothered to try Savage 2. Dunno why, actually. Games are kinda like books - there's too many of them to play anything less than what you really love.
It was free for a week or two (maybe a weekend) and all I could think about during that time was why I was playing this instead of Natural Selection. Interesting choice on their part though. Can't imagine it's easy to just go "OUR GAME IS FREE."

They did it for savage1 as well, it seems to just be something they due to their games after about 2 years.
Probably because the communities are almost dead at that point, and the free players give the people who actually bought the game someone to play with.
So in a way it is a good thing for both groups, we get a free hopefully decent game. And the people who actually liked the game enough to pay for it, get more people to actually play against.
I was in the beta for this. I had no idea what I was doing and the interface was trying to devour my face. I might come back to it. I do have fond memories of Savage 1.
I liked Kotaku or Joystiqs description of the game. "When it works, it is an amazing experience for all involved. When it doesn't it's an RTS with the worst AI ever"
The learning curve is no worse than Natural Selection really. Takes all of 15 minutes to pick up and play, and through some pain in actual matches you'll learn some of the nuances of the mechanics (or you could just ask the players, they're generally responsive and helpful).
Shame this has gone free, it was released just this year apparently, and has had a weekend price cut on Steam (which is where I bought it for like £6?). I wonder how these developers survive

crap your right, it did release this year, I thought it released in 06 for some reason.
They probably keep their costs down with a small team, and making money off the initial sales. Plus it probably isn't selling well enough for it to matter if they give it out for free, they are probably hoping people will play it, like it, and get the premium accounts.
I played for a few hours, its ok, still kind of lacking something. I think its the fact that ranged weapons are completly useless this time. I can hit someone with a fully charged marksman shot, and only do like 10% damage at most. Which is pretty hard to do considering you have to account for them dashing/dodging/arrow flight.
Also the melee is pretty spammy.
Not bad for free, but I still wouldn't pay money for it. =/

Oh Jesus fuck yes. I enjoyed the shit out of the first one but didn't know if dropping hard earned money on the second was a wise choice. Plus, I bought the first one like three months before it became free.
It's like karma swung my way.
Edit - I like how the game install is only 979MB, but the system requirements are barely met by my compy.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I'm downloading it right now. I'm hoping it lives up to, or improves, the experience of the first. Usually I'd trust the word of forumers here but I don't remember there being much of a reaction for the first one from people here.
From poking around I've heard they are moving to a microtransaction model. No idea what this entails ...
It entails paying real life money for in-game items that grant you marginal benefits.
Basically $5 for an item that gives 15% to hps/mana/stamina, +15% to something secondary stat, and the ability to instantly heal yourself, your mana, or your stamina. Oh and it expires after 120 days.
Man. They didnt actually add anything to the game when they made it free. They just cut stuff from the people who download it for free. And to think, I thought I was gonna get a bonus for owning the game

Getting the free version now to give it another shot, looked at the premium version, but you don't seem to get anything worthwhile for your $10.
I never asked for this!
that's pretty dumb

Not quite, but thanks.
EDIT: Or you have a shitload of time on your hands. Maybe that's it.
I do, so yes
If I have to look for more than one minute to find the system requirements for your game, your website is fucking broken.

You're pretty dumb.
Yup. Pseudo-Injuns vs. Beast-things. Complete with tech-trees, builder units, tesla guns, seige weapons/trolls, and creeps!
It is a pretty darn fun game, though Savage 2 had a kind of MMO ui that bothered me. Dl'ing this immediately.
edit: I remember this having a crappy launch, glitch-wise. Surely they've fixed most of those bugs by now.

Apparently they released a OS X client for it today as well.
Nice.

This anything like that?

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
PSN:Hakira__
Well, that and never being too impressed with the first. I enjoyed it when it became free, but not enough to actually want to pay for it.
Now that the sequel is free I'm sure I could get a few hours of fun out of it at least.

free game, but with a lot of minitransactions
Regular Account on 4 inventory slots while Prime has 6.
So free account folks are suppose to be weaker to let Prime account users grief you.
And microtransaction for passive items giving you an unfair over the edge advantage over players who don't have it.
Sorry I am not playing this game to let other players WTF PWNED me with their unfait advantage.
Complaining about a game you're able to play for free? Really?
And yeah, why should paying customers have more advantages over non-paying ones, fuck them!
Isn't it obvious?
o_O
Yeah
I want my money back!
Seriously the lack of 2 item slots means nothing, and the premium items mean little. I had no problem killing people last night.
