I am about to shit a brick of rage.
MSInstaller 3.1v2 will not install. It says there is already a newer version on my PC.
.Netframework needs 3.1 to install, but since I only have like 3.0, it will not install.
MSInstaller 3.1v2 installer gives the "KB893803v2 Setup Error: Setup has detected that the service pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update."
.Net provides "You must install Windows Installer 3.1 to complete installation. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 requires that windows installer 3.1 be installed prior to installation." Any ideas on how to fix this?
Onto Firefox- Firefox 3.0 randomly crashes on the complete load of some pages. If I stop it before the page is fully loaded it does not do this, so I figured it must be due to some ads. I got new Quicktime and new Flash, but no changes. Any ideas?
FINALLY- This is all because my PC had a 40g and a 160g HDD inside it. I decided to ditch the 40 and go with a new 500g. Problem: The 40g had windows installed it, but it was not booting from this. It was booting from my 160, which also had windows on it. But when I removed the 40g and put in the 500g in its place, it refused to boot windows on the 160, and windows did not recognize any hard drives connected although bios did. Now I am working off the windows installed on my 500g, and while it works it seems really fucked up (like I cant install that framework stuff, so i cant install a ton of other things). Is there a way I can make my only 160g be the primary windows so it boots from that windows and uses that desktop stuff as its desktop and what not?
I can provide any information you need on my system, but I am not computer savvy enough to be willing to go edit registry stuff and what not. Windows XP Pro, SP 3.
Edit- And for some reason I can't add or remove programs from windows using control panel. It says it cant open iis.inf file.

1. Sounds to me your energy is best spend on getting your old Windows back (the 160 GB disk one) and then go from there.
2. Get the AdBlock and Flashblock add-ons to Firefox and should see no more ads (Just clock Add-ons in the Tools menu and the rest is easy). If it does not fix it the go to "Manage bookmarks", export your bookmarks and uninstall + reinstall Firefox.
3. Sounds like the 40 GB disk had your boot manager. You can try making the 160 GB the first disk in your BIOS or perhaps installing a boot manager. There are a ton of those try for example GAG boot manager, but which ever you chose star by doing a backup of important files.
4. Somewhere in the registry you can find what Windows is to do for each individual uninstall. I can't remember where but try to google for something like uninstall registry entry
2.) Installed flashblock, already had adblock installed. Doing something in googledocs, so i will wait to test it.
Edit: can someone provide instructions on how to run my old version of windows (Will it even run now that the boot manager from the 40g is gone?), and if I do that, would I be able to format my new 500g hd and just start fresh? + Another edit, Where does firefox save bookmarks? On this new install of windows i cant find them to move them over, and I cant run my old firefox to export them.
First, I reinstalled windows on my 160 and kept the file system intact so i didn't have to format. Luckily this worked out as i hoped. I then downloaded everything the updater told me to, and it worked. Guess last time was just a fluke. And instead of using firefox, im moving onto chrome.
