    I just finished the game for the first time like 15 minutes ago with my Corsair. The end boss sucks when you realize bleed resistance is *suddenly* important. I got killed in one hit when all the little energy bleed balls he casts hit me at point-blank when I went to Shield Charge him.

    I think I had the same issues, but wasn't bothered by them. The procs make it seem like your character is actually fighting, instead of doing the same animation over and over. The freaking particle effects on your character will also lag your computer down something terrible. I very much appreciated being able to re-spec my character whenever I wanted.

    True, but you don't need 100% reduced cooldown for the skill to be good. It's still plenty useful without it. The general way most people use it is as a debuff (with the poison skill line), I'm just saying that if you want to, you can make it into a fantastic damage dealer. My Rogue/Hunting character was tearing bosses up with it even in Normal mode before I had gotten particularly good equipment (two +Pierce Damage rings + a relic + a +Piercing Damage buff from Hunting).

    Alright, I'm playing through Titan Quest for the first time. Um, I'm still in Greece... pretty much still on this never-god-damn-just-end-already-third main quest.... is the pacing going to be like this through the rest of the game as well? Don't get me wrong, I'm having fun... but... honestly, killing satyrs, spiders, centaurs, and boars is starting to get a little bit tiring now. Does the story suddenly PICK UP and OMG just one more quest type of syndrome occur?

    p.s. playing as a dual wielding conqueror

    The game felt slow to me on my first play through normal. On my play through epic, it went a lot faster. I think this was true for a couple of reasons. First, I knew what to expect. The maps never change so I knew right where to go, so there was no wasted time exploring the edges of the maps. Your character prior to level 30 is just underpowered, so your killing rate is a ton slower. Without a bunch of extra skills and stats it can feel like a bit of a grind. Not to mention the lack of really good gear. Since you're playing a melee character you'll feel that even more. Make sure you go over to titanquest.net and download the fan patch which will fix the drop rates somewhat so you'll have a decent shot at good gear. Since those drops are a function of your level and the monster level, it's hard to find kickass gear before level 20. (I've been doing a lot of research! :P )

    If you want to speed things up a bit, get online with some other folks and ask for some twink items. Also, I'd recommend trying to get some items that convert damage to health, it will prevent the need for tons of health potions.

    Is it just me, or are the artifacts not particularly balanced? For my Warfare/Defense build, I've been using the Shroud of Eternal Night for pretty much the whole easy playthrough. The minimum level is 10, but as far as I can tell it's as good or better than every other artifact recipe that I've found, even those with much higher minimum levels.

    I just picked up this game in the last week, and I'm really enjoying it. Id love to join a group of ppl and "hang out" and play, swap items, etc, but not just yet.

    I want to finish my solo run thru the game at least once before I start running with a group, cause I want that "new game experience" / exploring feeling to last as long as possible.

    That's why, except for some random forum trolling, I'm staying away from guides / build lists / etc.

    I'm currently a 21 or 22 Spellbreaker, toying around with skills, etc, and im at Lower Nile in Act II. With the way that I typically play games ( I tend to play one alot, both in hours and consecutive sessions when new ) I don't expect to be more then another week or 2 til I've completed a full run thru on normal.

    Hope you all are around and running together still then.


    If you guys decide to start a "2nd Wave" of newbie characters, I have a rogue alt "mule" for bank space that I'm considering playing up a bit. Made this class basically cause my 1st pass thru Act I got me a hood and leg armor that each give +1 to rogue mastery skills. I'd be willing to play him up to the point where he's just behind the Spellbreaker ( so I'm not ruining his exploration ).

    Dont use the fanpatch ... do have the DS trainer installed, but I only use it for loading the potion stacking mod, and a couple of the visual ones ( screen shake on crit, alt key toggle change, flying bodies ).


    I do have 1 question .... I have a weapon with a 10% dmg to health conversion ( Soulkeeper is the name I believe ), and was wondering if this was affected by +% Life Leach items. I was using some of the D/HoT weapons before ( x Leech over 3 sec ), but I was killing too fast for that to be effective ( mobs died before it would tick ).

    I currently have a blue ring that adds to % Life Leach, which also says it has 27/3 Life Leach. I'm assuming this is an effect that can be triggered by any weapon(s) equiped, but not sure if the +% bonus applies to the 10% dmg dealt lifetap as well. Anyone know for sure either way ? Im considering swapping back out of this ring to a green on i have that has a +health/health regen relic installed.

    I've gotten into Legendary with my Conquerer. Epic difficulty went rather quickly. This game scales oddly at times. I think I've spent more time on Legendary Act 1 than the last 2 or 3 Acts in Epic. For most of the boss fights it's been learning to run away when they use what I call the "major bullshit" skill, like a life leech that takes you to zero health in 2 seconds, in spite of having life leech resists over 100%. It's kinda annoying to carefully build up your gear such that all of your resists mean you can barely be touched but a boss can one-shot you if you're not paying attention or your computer lags (like mine often does).

    I ran into the Hydra boss in Legendary. Granted, he's like 12 levels higher than I, but I barely scratched him and he one-shotted me suddenly and I'm not even sure how to avoid it. I'll come back to him later.

    I'm also a little annoyed with the drop rate in Legendary so far. All the talk of purples dropping everywhere - so far it's no happening for me. Almost done with Act 1 and I've had only 2 drop, and one of them I had already (Leatherskin shield). Even worse, majestic chests have yet to drop anything but crappy yellows. Seriously? They should at least guarantee a green and a good chance at a blue. On the plus side, one of the Gorgon queens did drop a green Stonebinder's bracers, which are awesome. +3 to all skills plus various resists? Thank you!

    @pmm - I'm using the fanpatch and you should too. A lot of issues with the original are fixed without breaking the game or feeling like a cheat. It really is better. I'm not using any mods, though.

    However, I am using TQVault because as nice as they were to create a stash and transfer area, it is simply too small. I have an entire stash's worth of relics and charms from each difficulty level, not to mention all the blues I've collected for use with my alts. There is simply no good way to not "cheat" and manage such a large inventory of stuff.

    While I'm on the topic, I'm not sure about the motivation of game designers to limit stash/storage sizes in RPGs. I'm not sure how having a big stash gives a player an unfair advantage to store everything they've collected. As long as you're willing to pay for storage, you shouldn't be crippled with an artificial limit.

    Ok, I just started playing this game... and going against your recommendation, I'm aiming for a Thane. :P

    Now, my idea is to only pick up the melee procs in Storm and focus more on Warfare's Dual-Wielding... then I'd probably look into more survivability.

    What attributes should I focus on? Will Strength benefit me more, since I won't be using any spells other than the melee-centric abilities in Storm? Or do even those need a good investment of Intelligence to scale well?

    I'm thinking of something like this:

    Well, Hades died this morning at 1am, then I went to bed. Apparently I'm lucky and unlucky at the same time. I got my purple turtle 1st try, but got all white loot from his orb ... go figure.

    I found it quite annoying that you can be playing along in the best gear you've found without any major issues, then all of a sudden resists become super important. Granted, I'd been smart enough to save decent resist yellows and greens along the way, but come on.

    All of a sudden pierce resist becomes a huge headache. Now, my base gear has about 20-25% pierce resistance, and some of the act IV archerers ( the demons in hades for ex ) routinely hit me for 2-3x what the melee mobs do. And, apparently, boosting that up to the 80-90% range only results in a 5-10% reduction in damage from the mobs. Is this normal ?

    I personally think the idea of piercing damage 100% ignoring armor is wrong. I also feel there are too many different types of damage / resistances.


    Anyway, tonight will be some passage runs, a trip to hades vault, and maybe another couple kills of hades to see if he drops something useful.

    Congrats on the turtle! I still have yet to get one even after a couple dozen Hades runs.

    I too found the pierce damage in Act 4 ridiculous. There are too many types. You'll find that you'll need to keep adding elemental resists and piercing as you keep upgrading equipment. I'm in Legendary Act2, and I still wear quite a few greens to keep up the resists. The other thing you can do is to make sure you have at least one piece of equipment that gives you "% damage converted to health" - the equivalent of D2's life leech. I use an artifact (I forget which one) that gives me about %15 of damage to health. At times I also used a green weapon and socketed it to give me any more. As long as you're hitting stuff you can get back more health than you lose, which is very helpful in Act 4.

    The only resist I ignore is poison. Even with negatives resists, poison rarely hurts you. There's only a couple of bosses that do poison damage so keep a set of poison resist gear around just for that.

    I wouldn't bother doing normal Hades runs for gear unless you really enjoy doing it over and over and seeing only yellows drop. Chances are you'll get one or two blues for twink stuff for alts, but you'll outgrow them in a few acts anyways and be replacing them with better yellows and greens. It's my understanding that the latest version nerfed boss drops to favor random world drops so you're better off just leveling up your main character to legendary where you can find purples on a more regular basis.

    Ok, someone fill me in here because I'm confused.

    I bought this awhile back when it was on sale on Steam, the Gold version (with Immortal throne). I haven't played it much for various reasons, but when I went into steam to fiddle around tonight I noticed there is both Titans Quest and Titans Quest: Immortal Throne listed as seperate games. I thought Immortal Throne is an expansion; so why does it have it's own game?

    Well, anyway I just loaded up Immortal Throne and it imported my level 3 man from the base game that I had apparently made before; but aside from completely starting me over, I couldn't tell any difference.I mean...obviously; I assume the expansion stuff is for people with high level mans and have finished the base game.

    What I'm wondering is: Is there any reason to play in the "base" game? Should I just load Immortal Throne and start my game straight up from there? Or is there any benefit of doing the game in the "normal" game first before moving on?

    Immortal Throne kinda made the base game obsolete. There's no reason to load it up if you have both of them.

    You have to load it up once or IT will error on load. After that first time, it will be fine.

    What they need to learn for the sequel:

    1. Skills that use static numbers don't scale and thus become useless quickly. Every skill should be based off player stats or simply be a %. Any skill that does not scale through ALL difficulty levels is a waste of development time and speaks of ignorance on your behalf.

    2. Summoned creatures need to scale with the player more than just the difficulty. It's no use making a creature stronger when playing on Legendary when Legendary Act I and Legendary Act IV are completely different ballgames.

    3. Caster trees need more ways of keeping enemies off them. The amount of dancing around you need to do as a pure caster in this game borders on ridiculous. D2 got it right.

    4. Giving bosses 1 hit kill attacks and completely insane resistences is a cheap and frustrating way of increasing difficulty. Also, be mindful of how each talent tree deals damage when assigning boss resistances. (for example: boss x is immune to bleeding and poison damage. Tough luck, Rogues.)

    5. Don't make your game depend entirely on locally saved characters. This fucks any chance of a long-term mp community.

    6. Boss loot. Sort out your % droprates. A player should not be rewarded with complete shit for a first time endboss kill on the hardest difficulty level. There should even be the remotest chance of the boss dropping casual magic items in that scenario.

    7. Expanded tooltips. For someone who's all about the math and the min-maxing (aka the people who'll be playing your multiplayer game over and over and over) the TQ tooltips were laughable. What attributes contribute to the skills performance? Does the skill require a specific type of gear? does this skill cancel another skill in the same tree? Does skill x stack with skill y?

    D2 has spent years refining this genre. There's no excuse to make mistakes D2 fixed years ago.

    The lead designer for Titan Quest has started a new company though and is apparently working on a game that is the spiritual successor to Titan Quest. Here's hoping that he gets the necessary funding to see it through since Titan Quest was an excellent game and despite its flaws, it also did many things very, very right.

    The lead designer for Titan Quest has started a new company though and is apparently working on a game that is the spiritual successor to Titan Quest. Here's hoping that he gets the necessary funding to see it through since Titan Quest was an excellent game and despite its flaws, it also did many things very, very right.

    It's the only hack&slash since D2 that's held my interest for over a year. And even today it's still incredibly beautiful.

    So this sounds like a game I might think about purchasing, once I'm done with my current fascination (Drakensang). The main reason is I'm very much looking forward to Diablo III (day 1 purchase guaranteed) and having a cool, actioney RPG type of game to sate that thirst in the meantime might be cool... especially if there are any multi-player games still happening with PA jerks. It seems the OP and those he played with early on have lost interest, but maybe some others are still around?

    Anyhow, after reading through this thread I sorta got intrigued by the various ways to combine masteries to create different characters. I'm wondering though... what's the closest I could come to re-creating the dual-wielding blender of awesome that was the D2 barbarian?

It seems the OP and those he played with early on have lost interest, but maybe some others are still around?

    It's called a Warden, actually. Defense/Hunting mastery...shield+spear. Smacking shit with your shield is very satisfying.

    I actually managed to play through the easiest difficulty with a War/Defense build that used neither duel wielding nor shield skills. There's a Defense ability that gives you a chance on being hit to have a HoT applied to you, which you can later upgrade to include an attack speed buff for the duration as well. Quite handy if you're going to be wading into the middle of groups of enemies. I think you can just dump one point in the initial healing component if you just want the attack speed boost, since the duration is fixed.

    Steam always list expansion packs as separate programs to install.

    Also, do NOT play the base game then suddenly decide to upgrade to IT... cause when I did that and imported my existing character to IT I had to start all over from the first quest. All my equipment, skills etc. etc. remained intact but none of my actual story progress/quest progress. Made me uninstall it. :/

    I suppose it's useless to harp on this, but the loot drops are so damn weird. I can't tell you how many times I've killed bosses of all kinds and got nothing more than shit yellows. I'm level 58 in Legendary Act 2 and purples seem to drop every time I play and in some of the strangest places. Yesterday, I had the Tartarus (sp?) chest piece pop out of a bone pile in Act 2. WTF! I also picked up Hades' shield and Herakles bow. They were all out of things like sepulchers. I won't complain, but I killed the Telkine later in the Act and not even a green. All of the majestic chests in that Act? Nada. That's just wrong. Maybe it's because I played D2 to death, but you'd think high level loot would be tied to the toughest mobs or bosses.

    Some of us couldn't care less about the loot drops or where it comes from. I think the random drops prevent massive boss farming. You could kill a boss for loot, exit out, start back at the closest savepoint, and kill him again for loot. He doesn't drop an epic every time? Oh well.

    I use what I have. Also, you can't use the runes and stuff on the epic drops anyways. Close your weaknesses by augmenting a normal item with the things you want. It's also pretty cool to see a skeleton swinging around a fire/ice bladed spear. Makes me all giddy because it's gonna be MINE and AWESOME.

    See, that is something that all RPGs should have. There is nothing cooler than fighting an enemy who is wielding something badass, and when you kill him you get his badass stuff and make it yours. This alone makes me think about picking up the game.

    The one time a mob had a purple bow I didn't see it until he was already dead. All of my purples are coming out of strange containers.

    What is a good ratio to use when distributing attribute points? Specifically STR and DEX for warrior type classes. I was thinking of starting a new game and making a Harbinger.

    1:1 until dex is around 450 for a melee iirc. You want dex to get your defense rating up so boarmen aren't killing you with pointy sticks... as fast.

    Yeah this. Actually you don't really need to stop DEX. The 450 max is only for top item pre-reqs.

    The awesome thing about this game is pierce weapons. This is one of the only games where spears do not get the shaft. And shields. They are awesome, as they should be, in a game about Greek mythological warriors.

    I can't find my discs anywhere, and besides, I don't have IT yet, so I'm about to buy TQ Gold off of Steam. I can still use mods and unofficial patches with the Steam version, right?

    Yes, I bought it off Steam & use Defiler, played Masteries in the past, etc.

    So I bought this game off steam yesterday largely because of this thread and I'm having a blast.

    Are you guys still playing online? Because that looks like it would be great fun.

    Also, any tips for a harbinger (dream/warfare) build would be much appreciated.
