Dude needs to stop trying to sell me a bunch of bull I don't care about and start updating his fucking webcomic. I don't care if you're busy on your fantastic book tour!
Honestly I think he should have just stopped the thing after the wedding. Everything after that has been rather middling in my opinion.
EDIT: especially this Connie Dates Stripper storyline that has just been boring as sin.
He literally lives off subscriptions and merchandise sales. Of course he pushes them, he wants to feed his family.
And yes, he could get a "real" job, but then he wouldn't have as much time to devote to the strip and it wouldn't be as good.

As it stands he barely devotes any time to the strip, unless you count endless book signings as part of the strip. I see where you're coming from but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
In the interview, does he talk about how he doesn't draw comics anymore?
At least he makes sure to update his site with merch info everyday.
Hot damn I'm cold tonight!
Edit: Believe me, I could spend an hour being my own devil's advocate to what I just wrote above....but still...
Edit edit edit: Here I am being a dick again (I promise, Achewood is my favorite, so it's just tough love), but I haven't really been keeping up with Achewood for months now. Why did Mr. Bear go from being an intellectual to being a grandiloquent over-the-top character from fucking middle earth.
You know what? We're going to launch 2009 on Tuesday. Sorry, but that's the gig. Zine 7 will debut on the fanflow, Sandwich Duel will return at The New Yorker, and the Sound of Young America interview will air in the next 24 hours. First strip of 2009 around noon PST.
Massive shop closeout sale! (See above.) Last chance for now to pick up Achewood shirts, books, etc!
It's like...It's like I hate bitching about things I get for free, but just because they're free doesn't mean I can't critique. And when I see 'New strip up tonight, promise!' pop up on his site, it makes me sad that, my response is usually to think nigh-subconsciously, 'Pfff, yeah right...'
It comes down to the fact that, he remedy the problem by switching to a 3 strip a week format or something, and I wouldn't make a peep...but this style he's playing at just gets me down sometimes.
Onstad is also not good at dealing with his public.
When I think about Onstad, I can't help buy think about how he shut down his messageboard at Dumbrella because he was unhappy with people who didn't like his comic.
The man DOES have a talent, though. It needs to be mentioned that no one would bitch about lack of updates if it weren't for the fact that his comic is great.
His talk about criticism is a bit disconcerting in that interview, in that he doesn't seem to talk about using it creatively, and just ignoring it instead. He's lucky that he's awesome off the bat, really.

i love achewood
If by lately you mean the last year. :P
There's going to be an interview with Malki up later in the week.
I'm listening to it right now (on the special feed for people who donate money because it is public radio)
He's all big-time now, having interviews at Google and shit.

Jesus god that comic is dense.
