I will soon be purchaseing a wii, are there any good samurai period games for the wii?

I loved Kengo and Wasy of the Samurai for the PS2, and am looking for something simmiler.

Thanks!

There's the Samurai Shodown games on the Virtual Console, for the NeoGeo. Excellent 2D fighting games.

The wii retail release is pretty slim as far as "Samurai games" go. There's one game on point in particular, but it's quality is highly, highly questionable. And that is Samurai Warriors: Katana. It's like an on-rails mindless hack'n'slash. So if you don't mind mindless slashing across hundreds of nameless/faceless opponents then maaaaybe it'll be okay. I haven't played the game though so I cannot really speak to its quality. Maybe a rental? Just don't risk a lot of money on it.

Another highly questionable release that may or may not fit is Bleach: Shattered Blade. Are those guys samurai? Not sure. But it's a 3D fighting game based on the anime. I can't speak to this game either, it could be decent or it could be complete garbage, I have no idea. Reviews are of little help.

In Feb, the Wii should be getting Samurai Shodown Anthology, a collection of excellent 2D fighters:
A compilation of games from the great SNK weapon-based fighting series, Samurai Shodown. Celebrate the history of Samurai Shodown Anthology by battling as one of the greatest Samurai of all time. Seven separate adventures that span across the life of the franchise in this incredible collection. The complete collection of the SAMURAI SHODOWN series contains seven games: Samurai Shodown, I, II, III, IV, V, V Special and VI.

Yeah I can actually stand behind and vouch for the quality of the SamSho games. I'll be getting this collection come Feb.

Maybe someone else has other suggestions, especially if we broaden the definition of what you're looking for.

Looking for historical accuracy, or over the top Japanese action?

If the latter, google Oboro Muramasa Youtouden.

Oh yeah, the Oboro game looks amazing. Is there even a release date for that yet?

Oh hey there's also that Samurai Toaster game coming to WiiWare which actually looks like a lot of fun! Looks kind of like a CastleCrashers or Alien Hominid game, but with Samurai Toasters!

How about a game that stars a modern day swordsman who uses samurai-style sword fighting (with a lightsaber) along with wrestling moves?

Check out No More Heroes. It was one of the best games released last year.

Red Steel is a samurai game... if featuring the ability to have katana duels means it's a samurai game.

It's still a good game, despite lackluster reviews, if only because the multiplayer likens back to the good ol' days of Goldeneye.

I'll take a new Bushido Blade anywhere. So ahead of its time gaming still hasn't caught up.

    Quoted for truth.

I personally loved kicking the pants off people using a dude with a huge afro and bigger sword. :D

I was hoping for the historical setting. Bushido Blade and Kengo should both make comebacks on the wii. Especially now that there is a 1:1 motion controller coming out.
