Recording sound! From the microphone!

SkutSkutSkutSkut Registered User regular
How can/do I do this with fraps, as it picks up sound well, but no mic noise can be heard. If no mic noise can be picked up from fraps, what's a good program to use with it? I have a Let's Play I need to restart and now I can do it in video, but need help getting the mic audio heard.

Any help is of course appreciated, and you get to watch my Clive Barkers Undying LP for your troubles :).

In the audio control panel, unmute the microphone. That should play the microphone audio through your speakers/headphones, so it will also be picked up by fraps.

For XP (should be similar in Vista)

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
    or
    Start -> Control Panel

    Then "Sounds and Audio Devices"
    Under "Device volume" click "Advanced..."

Then under "Microphone" uncheck the "mute" box.

Well I didn't find an unmute but it did go into speech recognition and the computer recognizes the microphone.

In the volume controls, you may need to go to File > Advanced.

If the "Mute" box is checked, uncheck it. And make sure the Mic Volume isn't too low in there.

As for other programs that can be used for recording input from a Mic, Audacity works well.

Edit: Also, in Fraps, if you go to the Movie tab and select "Use Windows Input," that might do what you're trying to do. ...I think. I'm not actually sure what you're trying to do, though, so... nevermind... maybe?

You could do this in a two step process.

corky got the first half, and seeks sort of has the second half.

(This is assuming you have a 3.5mm microphone)

1.) You need to make it so that your microphone comes out your speakers. I do this by double clicking on the little volume icon in my taskbar/notification area, unmuting "microphone" and turning the volume up to max. You also need to make sure that the microphone is the input device (as opposed to line in, say), but if you say that the speech recognition works, then that's probably already set.

2.) Your sound card should have a "Stereo Mix", "What U Hear", or something like that. If you set fraps to record that, then you should be good to go.

I'll give that a go tonight.

hmm still no success, I have mic maxxed and hear it through my headphones, which is all I have for audio, but still nothing. It's weird. I either get video sound OR mic sound and not both. Running vista 64 bit.
