The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
First off: I think this is the proper forum for this topic.
As we all know, we have a very small amount of memory on the Wii (512mb). This is an almost sizable amount, but is quickly taken up.
The solution to this is an SD card. Unfortunately, you can load directly from the SD card (hopefully that can be changed). Though I have found that there is a problem with even this. I've noticed that a bunch of stuff can't be copied over to the SD card. I was just wondering why some files can't be copied over, and why they can say that you can "just move the stuff to an SD card to free up space" when I can't move everything (and anything) I want.
Non-movable saves are up to the developer. They're like an anti-cheating measure. Channels (and VC/WiiWare) cannot play off an SD card because who knows why. Unknown access time, supposedly.
There are homebrew apps that will allow you to move non-movable saves if you so choose. You'll need a copy of Twilight Princess to get the whole homebrew ball rolling but after that it's very easy.
Generally they won't let you move saves of online games so you can't cheat or impersonate someone else. There were a number of untransferable games even on the Gamecube, including...hm, if I remember right, Smash Bros Melee and F-Zero?
And yes, you can copy anything anywhere with homebrew.

I don't think Melee's save was copy protected. But F-Zero was, I guess because of how you could connect your memory card to the AX machines. And Animal Crossing was too, for obvious reasons.
There's not really an easy way to copy protected saves from Gamecube memory cards on the Wii. The currently available apps only work with third-party memory cards, I think, due to some issue with libogc's memory card access in Wii mode.
Well I don't have a problem with GameCube games (have a GameCube memory card). It's just kind of sucks that I have tons of space on my SD card but can't transfer most of my save files, at least not the ones that would matter. Like the large files that would make an SD card awesome. Frankly, the idea of deleting VC games to free-up space (with the option of re-downloading for free) just sounds stupid.
It does bother me about not being able to load from the SD card, but that wouldn't be that big of an issue if I could just get anything I wanted onto the card.
I do own Twilight Princess. So where does one find one of those apps (am I allowed to ask for that?). Will this allow for moving all files, regardless of if it is protected?

I believe you are allowed to ask for that...try googling for "homebrew channel." Make sure you read all guides and FAQs as I don't know if the latest firmwares work with it anymore (they probably do, it gets re-hacked every time they block it).
